Vibration at certain trim levels

I’ve noticed at some trim levels I get vibration thru my 2002 246 duo prop boat checked the out drive tight side to side but has about 3” of play up and down movement seems like it might be trim cylinders. Anybody else run in to this problem new to the Volvo outdrive. Thanks

I don't think I have the issue you are talking about. I don't have any movement up and down.

Ya I’m sure it not supposed to be moving guess I’ll have to do some more research see what’s causing it also it seems to be metal to metal on trim cylinders seems like there should be a bushing between the rod and the cylinders. Thanks for letting me know !!

I had the same issue and found it was a leaking trim cover. I chatted with Volvo and they sent me a new trim kit cover. I have not replaced it yet. I had a mix of water and trim fluid that was a milky white color. I drained a good bit out and refilled with fluid, but it still makes a noise when I lower the unit at speed.

Vibration at idle or while moving?

Vibrations while moving are typically caused by bad u-joints, or anything else that is connected to the u-joint assembly shaft, such as yoke or gimball bearing. Easy to check. Further back towards the block is something called a "coupler". These rarely go bad, but the splines need to be greased.

I understand that vibration while under power could be u joints , bearing or coupler but still thinking lower unit shouldn’t be able to be pulled up 3” or so and can see movement between trim cylinders and trim pin . Is there a bushing missing or does it need to greased mine is dry metal to metal. Thanks

After checking further it seems to be the gimble pins that have play in them is this a hard fix to do yourself

Read sliderules 250 thread. Yea not a easy diy job.
