Winch strap

Post by Mike in SC »

Just broke my winch strap yesterday afternoon, probably age and sun related failure.
As I was shopping for a new one (and maybe a new winch) I realized I had a two speed winch! Fancy!
And I wondered, does anyone actually use more than the first one or two feet of that strap?

Actually yes. I have winched a 24' boat onto a trailer that was sitting on blocks.

One thing my trailer guy said after he did some work for me was "that boat is Heavy!"
Were you able to pull it off the blocks and onto trailer dry?

Yup! Bone dry haha. once is got over the "crest" it rolled up nicely. The blocks made it lower than the trailer so it had to go up and on... if you know what i mean. I was very skeptical but my mechanic buddy had done it a million times.

To get it off we tied a strap around a tree to the transom loops and drove the trailer out from underneath it!

I bought the 2 speed its awesome. Yes only about a ft but the ramp I use I could never get the boat all the way up til I bought it. I have not found the strap since I bought it but it's a heavy duty strap. Maybe a 6000lbs one and only 16ft long so it would fit. I hate the cheap black ones. I'm always afraid of it breaking and coming back and smacking someone if not me right in the face.

I don’t but it’s nice to have the extra in certain cases.

We have only used the 20’ yellow 10,000 pound strap with forged hook. That gives you complete confidence.

Btw, don’t get the 25’ one on Amazon. It will often times overload the winch with it’s length.

+1 we have same Overton strap. A little stretchy in the beginning. Make sure you retighten once up to get boat down against bow stop

I had bought the Dutton Lainson strap that goes with the winch...but I was wondering whether to send it back once you guys started posting the Overton's one...and I'm going to see if it will pull the boat that last few inches across the bunks using that winch...
