Trailer tires--Goodyear endurance--interesting and impressed

Guys--

I was getting a car serviced today and was at a Goodyear dealership (company vehicle). While waiting, I inquired about trailer tires as I know mine are now approaching 4 years old and are Chinabombs. I asked about the GY Endurance as I have yet to read anything bad about them. The store actually had an Endurance tire and my exact China bomb as on my trailer sitting side by side in the showroom for comparison (unmounted). Same spec tires. The store encouraged me to "pick up" the tires and compare weight. I was amazed. The GY was at least 10-15lbs heavier than the bomb. You could also see the physical difference in sidewall thickness. I could very easily flex the sidewall of the bomb by pushing on it with my thumb. Now, I could move the sidewall on the GY, but maybe 10% as much and with more effort. The GY's also had what appeared to be a little extra rubber on the side they called "scuff guard". The only thing I saw on the GY that seemed less was the tread depth, but depending on compound hardness, that may not be an issue.

I am going on record...I am not a fan of Goodyear tires based on personal history, but it looks like these things are the real deal. The down side---they are expensive. Out the door for 4 tires....$625...ouch. But it's hard to put a price on safety I guess. I had read decent things about the brand on my trailer, but after seeing these, I'm going to probably switch in the spring (sucks because they are on sale, but it makes no sense to put new tires on and let them sit all winter in one place). Figured I'd pass this on as I had never seen this type of comparison.

Good Year in Ramsey MN. Right now, sale price is $525 out the door. 215/75/R14.....load range d. It's a solid price--$100.99/tire. I just don't want to let brand new tires sit all winter without moving....in sub zero weather. Am I crazy?

Yeah, the Goodyear Marathons had a horrible reputation, and I think they really put some effort into fixing that with the Endurance. I'll likely be giving them a hard look in the next few years here too, as my boat is no longer in the "new" category.

I used to get to the Green Bay area a couple of times a year...now, I really don't. Thank you for the offer though!

My trailer policy paid for two new ones this year. The trailer mfg sold the trailer with a hazard policy that replaces tires up $200 per incident. One nail in the side wall and the second got gauged somehow at a ramp. So I got two new tires for a total out of pocket of $40. My other two are getting pitched in the spring
