You lose a ton of control. I was amazed at YT's docking skills. He stick it in a 10ft slip like no ones business. Myself I would have done it nose in.

I tried backing in when we where at table rock. Probably wasn't the smoothest, but got it done. Its different and I need to practice . But like you said, too shallow for that here.

I may have to talk YT into giving lessons, but I'll try a few dozen more times
on my own.... he said it just takes practice. I'm not planning on taking the
boat out for the winter until November. Should be lots of good practice days
between now and then.

Awe, thanks BB! It just takes practice! Keep at it Okie. In a crosswind you may have to change your approach. Let the wind help bring you around and come in to half a length out instead of a full before you start the stern in.

I back the 343 in our dock and pretty much wherever we go. It get's easier with practice... and with twins. I can't imagine how you guys back a single engine!

Just remember..... slow and easy and live by the phrase, "Never approach a dock any faster than which you'd like to make contact with it"

Words I'd like to get my wife to understand. She's such a control freak the she likes to put boat on lift.
I keep trying to tell her to come to a complete stop right outside slip and ease in. Our marina sells T-shirts that say "I'm sorry for what I said while docking." I might have to buy one.

May have another lead on a newer style (poly tank) lift at Lake Mohave, about a 3.5 hour drive away. It's already uninstalled from the slip and floating at the maintenance dock. Guy is sending me measurements tomorrow to see if it would sit on the bunks on my boat trailer for transport. If it all seems ok I may head up there next weekend to check it out and potentially grab it. Fingers crossed!

This has been dragging out since August 17. I think maybe t500000 had his account taken over by some slacker. If this was truly t50000 he would have made a lift from legos and toothpicks by August 18. Probably would be in the process of spending a mountain of money making it right now.

Well the guy doesn't know what he has. Turns out it's a 4400# capacity lift, not enough.

BUT...he has another older fiberglass style that's either 6000 or 8000#, for $2500 instead of the $3000 he was asking for the poly tank unit. So I'll probably still go this weekend and grab that one instead.
