That tower is so bulky, and the design, seems off proportionally in the pics. One drive too. R30 wins so far. I guess we shall see once they hit more boat shows for a live look.

one of the salesman at the dealer I bought mine from said that the A29 will be a single motor only. Big miss by Cobalt IMO. I understand no one expects this boat to go 60mph down the lake. But for docking and general driving twins would be much better on a boat of that size.

The top is extremely bulky, but I like the idea and concept. Hopefully they make some refinements on that end. As far as only having a single screw it will still be fine with 95% of the people interested in buying one. the 430 will push it fine but propbably not as fast as some of the power hungry people on this forum would like.

Would really like to hear specs on it... dry weight, actual length, beam

It's not so much a power issue for many folks (although it would be for me), it's the lack of maneuverability when docking, turning, and reverse control while backing into slips with only one screw. This is further exacerbated by crosswinds trying to push the boat sideways. Having two screws allows you to "spin" the boat as necessary.

Perhaps if they explored bow thrusters it would help ease the pain. :?:

Personally, I would not purchase any boat over 26' without twins. IMHO, they start to become cumbersome above those lengths with only one powerplant.

Now add 30k for twins and it may not be appealing enough.
As the new owner whose trying to get off the dock downwind... I salute you and your insurance company.
Maybe they’ll only offer in white with 8 quick fender clips on each side?

Too funny Matt. :lol: Did you see the black smoke pouring out of that tug's stack? It's like he was ready to beat feet out of there.

Agree with ya on the cost too. Honestly I would be looking at a Formula in that size category. Cobalt should take a cue from the Formula site and allow owners to build it with either a single or twin configuration to please both crowds. 8-)

Agree 100% R7 is the absolute limit for me on a single screw. Mine can even be a little troublesome in a big cross wind because of the high freeboard. DTS really helps as it snaps in and out of gear. but no way would I go 2ft longer on a single motor.

I agree with you guys too, i think a boat that big has always been better suited with twin engines. For both power and maneuverability. Im just saying i dont think it will kill the vibes on it and it not sell. With the ability to squeeze a ton of power out of these LS motors they can somewhat get away with it, i think for a 29ft boat its a bit of a stretch. But.... it will be lighter, be more nimble on the water, and half the maintenance. Just trying to stick up for the good people at Cobalt and have faith they made the right call. They have obviously put a lot of time into this boat and did it for certain reasons.

Feel like 26 is a little short for twins... 29 borderline... 30 for sure...

Blue engine in it??? Hmmm.

I'm with A7 on the thrusters. I would love to engage thrusters.

Thrusters are cool as watching the big yachts park is fun.


We could add a fish & ski package to the A29? Trolling motor on the bow? Push button on the dash marked “ Bow damage prevention thruster “.
