New to cobalt - about to buy a 2007 262

Thanks for doing that! I am interested in everyones thoughts! We did get a trailer with it. It is a newer Cobalt trailer. Have not seen it yet. We will be going in a couple weeks to test drive (brrrrr) and finalize everything.

I bought my old 262 from the same guy. If you see something you don't like they will more than likely fix it for you. I even sea trialed mine in January as well. I just happened to find a 65 degree weekend.

I would suggest going the route that tgrace took. My sea trial was on Jan 20th, and it was 22 degrees. I'd say the boat felt good that day, but I couldn't feel anything...

There were some cosmetic fixes that needed done that they are doing. We will see when we get there how they turned out.

I didn't notice what this was when we looked at it. Will look closer when we go for our sea trial Jan 4th.

We will finalize when we do the sea trial on Jan 4th. So far ok. There was one salesman there that rubbed me the wrong way. But everyone else, including our salesman has been great so far. Hoping that the day of the sale goes well.

I’ll chime in mechanically as this was a valued trade the dealer took in.

Ask them what checks they’ve done upon their trade in assessment.

Was the drive pulled and gimble checked.?

Was a engine scann for codes ( faults such as misfire or low water pressure), and hours checked?

Does the current ecm match the date of production ( 2006-2007).

Has the hull had any repair work done?

Lastly. Service records that show impeller and fluid changes.

Your test drive will be awkward as it’s new to you in every regard.

Check all gauges when at idle at the dock.

Trim gauge from in to 1/2 is your safe range. Operate it several times and listen for excessive whine or strain ( while at idle running don’t go above 1/4)
Steering side to side should feel even with no chatter or tight spots ( some play is normal and idle will be the firmest)

Notice any delays from neutral to eithe fwd or reverse. ( should be the same or as bravos have cone wear that show up after 250 hrs ). Any long pause is a sign of cone clutch needed replacement.


Take your time ( stop and goes ) take off several times .... feel for any vibrations and also in turns. ( gimble bearing wear can cause this).

Tap the Saftey lanyard housing on the dash or panel after warm operation at idle to insure no carbon build up in the switch. If you see tach bounce when tapping it’s a sign of carbon buildup and has poor contacts. Earlier models mostly.

Then my fave..

Park it out away from boat traffic.. just float and listen. As your bobbing pop the hatch and listen for any signs of weird trickling water sounds.

And lastly enjoy the moment of nervous excitement as we don’t get these wonderful boat shopping experiences often
