Trailer for 232

Post by Tell3131 »

I am buying a 2008 Cobalt 232. It doesn't come with a trailer, but I need a trailer for it. I am looking for a trailer, but I am unsure as to exact fit for the 232. I have a good idea about length, but just hesitant to buy anything as I am not sure how the bunks will fit to the boat. Any recommendations? I am ok with buying a new trailer too, but figured could save a buck or two if I went with used. I am located in Kansas City MO area, but can travel a bit to get one.

Here is one used trailer I am looking at that had a Yamaha SX240 on it (so about the same size as the 232).

there are a number of manufacturers you can go to and they can build you a trailer that will fit your 232 perfectly. Heritage is one thats close to you. I would go to your local cobalt dealer and they could order one for you.

If you are going used i would look for something thats adjustable. like a Venture or EZ loader. That trailer you are looking at might be the right length, but the bunks are going to be WAY off. and they are welded on so you cannot adjust them.

This is the bandit. Call the snowman. he will be seeking a R5 see how close that one is. Bow eye to end of bunks. It might be close.

Call Ed Champion at Big Thunder Marine at Lake the Ozarks
(402) 290-8070

They’re a dealer for B&M Haulrite trailers manufactured right in Camdenton. Likely have the exact hull dimensions for a 232. Solid trailer that can be customized to your specs at a reasonable cost in 2-3 weeks.

Go custom new or universal used. I have my '95 252 on a 2008 Venture VBT-5900 and it works well.

How much did you have to adjust the Venture to fit your 252? I am ok with going used, but having to adjust the trailer makes me nervous as it is all new to me. Thanks.

The local marina should be able to set the trailer up for you for pretty cheap. Just make sure it’s bunk style and long enough.

It wasn't bad. Before putting the boat on the trailer the first time I found out where I wanted the bunks to rest on the hull, measured the hull, then set the bunk width. I think I had to put the boat on the trailer once and then pull it back off and adjust. Once I had the width right, I played with the forward/backward position. Probably did 3-4 rounds of boat on/off to get it exactly where I wanted it by adjusting the location of the winch support. I picked a slow winter day at the lake and took tools with me and did the adjustments on the ramp.

My EZ Loader trailer that was built for an R5 is for sale and will be available in the spring. It is a custom built trailer with 5 aluminum wheels, I just put 4 new Goodyear Marathon load range D tires on last year too. I am not sure of the hull differences between the R5 and the 232 though. The trailer is black in color and in really good shape!
