A few random thoughts on the topic of engine choices:

One difference between the 8.2 and 6.2 engines is weight: the 8.2 weighs in at 1,122 lbs, where the 6.2 is 300 lbs lighter at 822 lbs. This is a significant difference IMHO.

Having owned boats with 5.7, 6.2, 7.4, and 8.1 motors, I have noticed that the big blocks are super smooth at all RPMs, where the new LS engines (5.3, 6.2) can be very coarse at times.

Lastly, starting in 2020, GM is building a 6.6 liter engine (L8T) for HD trucks. This engine differs from the the smaller displacement LS engines (5.3, 6.2) in several ways, such as having an iron block. No idea if this engine will find it's way to the marine world, but I for one hope it does as the extra displacement would be welcome.

I weighed my setup for the registration last year (about a 1/2 a tank of fuel and most of gear with the exception of the daily items like coolers) and the boat and heritage trailer were exactly 6,600 pounds.

That’s pretty close to My 2014 R5 on an EZLoader trailer. I was just over half a tank of gas and was exactly 6800lbs.

Nicely put Wal.

I’m sure Volvo has looked into it but as it does possess the early iron block so we shall see.
This series still holds the same cylinder bore as the 6.2 but with the obvious increase in crank stroke to gain the torque it may be a fitting combo.
It’s rpm limits will be inherently changed as the rod angle will be more transitioned but GM is going to use it in the gas version HD so it is pretty potent in torque value and on 87 octane!

Mercury is on their own path of marine tech now which is very exciting!
These next few years of LS platform engines could be fun to see!!

Now let’s get some 565ci Big Block engines snuck in please 🤣

Just look closer there is twin turbos on that bad boy.
Here they are just laying around at the race shop for mercury. It's a pretty cool tour.

I think it's funny how everyone always always concerned about how fast their Cobalt will go.

Who cares? It isnt a race boat! If you want to go fast buy one of these! This thing belongs to one of my buddies and he just barely got it to fit.
