I think I gotta punch it

Post by sailor55330 »

Last year I got a Go7. I like it but struggled with where to mount it. I went with a ram mount on the windshield but honestly didn’t care for it. Efforts at flush mount did t go well either. I’m thinking of mounting on the dash top on the left side but that really involves 4holes plus a hole for the cable.

My question—for those that have done it how bad is it? I envision the dash cracking, a fire starting from the friction of the drill bit, hitting wires, ruining my gauge wiring and probably some other things—-after the first hole

Yes—-potential deal fell through. Funny how people back pedal when it’s time to finalize. Tried to low ball at the last minute. Not a big deal. Wasn’t really actively trying to sell—-they came to me. So I’m still an R3 owner and y’all are still stuck with my quirky posts and rants (till ya kick me off) or If one of the dealers at the bot show really want To move an R5. All I need is a stupidly great deal and a better tow vehicle

I tried that but since my phone was an ancient iPhone 6 that was 16g; I didn’t have memory to run the navionics app. Go 7 was actually cheaper

I’m still struggling with the same problem. This is the first boat I’ve owned that just doesn’t have a good location for a chart plotter...this summer I’m giving the iPad, bad elf gps, and a Sonarphone module for depth and temp. It will be window mounted which I don’t love, but I just can’t find a good spot worth putting holes on the dash.

I understand. I used a windshield ram mount last summer and didn’t really like it. It held ok but it looked like a Frankenstein arm and was just ugly. I talked to my dealer and they said drilling through the top dash was easy—-use a drill bit in reverse to get through the the material and start the hole. Kind burn through the fabric so it doesn’t catch a thread. Then just drill. Just sucks though. I do t know what I’m going to do honestly. Like you I don’t love any particular location

I had my Hook-7 windshield mounted last year too, with RAM mounts, and it wasn't cutting it. I decided to fashion a couple of brackets and use the existing screws on my console. It's been a good solid solution. Here's the skinny:

I remember that threat Photo... looks good! The layout of my dash doesn't work with that location. I am really stuck with a dashop mounting on a bracket. I've tried everything.

Garmins are rectangle. Simrad's are square. Where did you find that dash kit? At least I know somethings out there.
