Knocking noise in gears
I have a 2013 262 with Volvo 6.2 380 H. P., put in water for 1st time of year yesterday. Sounds like u-joints are knocking badly. Can they be lubricated (if so,how?). If not is this a serious and expensive problem? Boat goes in foreword and reverse,just making loud knocking noise.

Drive has to come off. Your bellows prob were bad let water in then they got all rusty.

Agree .
Be careful not to run your engine with the outdrive trimmed above 1/4 or close to trailer angles as this also wrecks gimbal bearings and u joints.

Water intrusion is the only thing I've had kill the gimble/U-Joints, the drive up thing is a wives tail. The Engineers wouldn't allow the drive to go high enough to bind the joints, even in trailer mode.cmattj wrote: Sun Mar 29, 2020 5:33 pm Agree .

Pinion Angle at the ujoint is prone to create a movement that puts side loads on the joint.
Plus the saddle horns built into the housing looses is bracing of the drive and creates more movement.
