I have a 2018 R7 with 380. You mentioned you updated firmware on the Garmins. Is that something that can be done by me or is it better off th have dealer do it ? If you could provide information I would appreciate it. Beautiful boat !!

Thank You

You can do it yourself. There are other threads last year for that. Tgrace will correct me if I'm wrong. You down load the software from Garmin on a USB then load it to your Garmin.

If you have “Active Captain” setup you can use the app on your phone to do updates. To set it up, insert a blank SD Micro card in one of the 7607 slots, create a wifi network on your 7607. While your iPhone is connected to the internet, download the Garmin app and register your Garmin 7607s and check for updates. The app will download any updates to your phone. Then you go to your boat and put your phone on the 7607’s wifi network and go to the update screen and start the process. The Garmin unit will take the updates from the Active Captain app automatically.

The other option is to buy a micro SD Card reader for your computer and download the updates to the SD card (after registering your units) and then just plug the card into your Garmin unit and update.

What are you using the ‘active captain’ app for?

As I wrote above, you can use it to upload updates to the Garmin Glass Cockpit ("GC") including firmware updates. The App notifies you when there is a Garmin update for your registered products and prompts you download them to your phone. I'd typically do that when I have a wifi connection at home or office. Then when I get to the boat I can pass over the updates. But, I think you can do much more. You can download the chart section you are navigating in and chart a trip and then upload that to the GC. Trip planning might be useful on a large lake with thousands of islands like Ontario/MN Lake of The Woods. You could plan your trip to avoid danger pints while navigating the shortest route. You can do that on your desktop, share it with the App and then upload it to your GC.

Personally, I just use it to push firmware and map updates to the GC. It seems simpler than transferring to a micro SD card and then inserting in the GC. I always see to lose those little suckers. :)

Ok thanks. I was wondering it there were more interesting features but I guess not. Sorry for being too lazy to crack the manual open. I downloaded it and will try out when the boat shows up. Thanks again

No problem. To be honest, I know it does a lot depending on the boats equipment, but given that I'll mostly use the GC for monitoring the engine and boat speed with the occasional navigation duty, I haven't read too much either. I know that boats with auto helm (autopilot) can have a course uploaded to the GC and the boat will navigate to its destination by taking the shortest course that doesn't require motoring through an island or peninsula. :)

If you are on older firmware you might have to load the latest onto a the SD card and do the update that way. I had to the first time but now all my updates I can do over wifi or bluetooth through the Active Captain app.

Back from the spa! Detailer said there’s a couple spots he thinks need to be wet sanded and buffed next year, and both were areas that started looking chalky by the end of last season (where bow stripes come together and the exhaust beauty shield boot stripe). Not bad for a 24 year old boat! Of course we promptly got about a half inch of snow, so at least some things are staying normal...

Ours emerges next week. I’m not into snow ❄️ boating either. Just send your blue sky our way. 8-)

We have our best stretch of weather on the way since September which means no ice soon and my dock and boats in the water in about 10 days or so. The view this morning was another beauty.
