2007 252 access hatch

Post by scurlock »

I recently replaced the carpet in my 252 with EVA foam. After I got it back I noticed there is a hatch between the ski compartment and the large box compartment back by the rear seat. It is about 15" square. It has a circular handle but it won't open. Does anyone know what that hatch is for?

Thanks

Just storage in sure. One of the 252 guys will come in. Welcome. Pictures? But it sounds like it's just locked. You should be able to rotate that handle and open it.
Sounds like the same thing they did on the 222. A great place to throw your fenders in.

Hey scurlock. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

To which hatch are you referring in the pictures above when you say "between the ski compartment and the large box compartment back by the rear seat"

The top pic looks like the large box compartment hatch and the bottom pic looks like the ski compartment.... :?:

Any more pics?

Again, welcome aboard mate.

Maybe an access hatch for the fuel tank sending unit? Can you pull up and twist that latch?

Yeah, that little hatch is for the fuel tank. The carpet/foam is covering up 4 screws that when you take those out, you can pull up on the little silver circle handle and pull it up. With those screws still in place you can't pull on that little silver thing. (Yes, I am very technical).

The sea dek looks great. You will have to keep us up to date how you like it through the summer.

Thanks T3 for the info. So I guess if I need to ever get to the fuel tank access I will have to remove the foam first to get to those 4 screws. That is kind of a bummer but makes sense.

So far the foam has held up great. It will be interesting to see how the summer goes. We have two Aussie dogs and I hear their nails can be hard on the material. We keep them dremelled so I am hoping they don't leave any marks. We have only been out twice with one of the dogs and so far no damage. I will keep you posted.

The foam flooring makes it look like a new boat. I am glad we did it. The cost was about $2400

Hi Scurlock,
The EVA foam looks great! Do the snaps (used to hold down the carpet) snap-in under the form (i.e. hidden but functional)? Can you provide information where you got the EVA for your 2007 252 (I have the same boat)...

Hi Sam. Sorry for the delay. The snaps were all removed from the boat and the foam is actually glued down. It isn’t removable. I am okay with that since the installer made sure all the access hatches were accessible. I have the boat at the Lake of the Ozarks. It was done by Precision CNC. He does great work.
