Amazon HD Music and Rockford Fosgate head uit

Anyone know if the Rockford Fosgate head unit on the R series can play HD audio? Was curious about upgrading to this but if the boat wont play it I may not. I do realize it may suck up a lot of data. My phone is a Samsung Galaxy S8 and appears to have HD audio capabilities but if the head unit doesnt then it obviously wont work.

Connection using Bluetooth? Bluetooth's native audio isn't great, which is why there are third-party codecs like AptX.

actually it appears my phone already has it - from their website The Samsung Galaxy S8 Smartphone is equipped with Qualcomm® aptX™ audio technology for high quality wireless audio.

You are correct. To stream mobile HD Audio (which is CD quality (lossy) sound), both the transmitter (your phone) and receiver (your head unit) must share a Bluetooth connection utilizing bluetooth AptX technology. I-phones do not currently have this technology but Android does.

Unfortunately RF head units do not utilize this technology (currently).

Products bearing the CSR aptX logo are certified for interoperability with each other.

JL Audio's Media Master MM100S-BE digital media receiver does have this tech built into the marine head unit.

Why does every thread here end up with someone having to spend money

Thanks for the link, I do remember browsing that awhile back but clearly didnt stick. Your comment about this setup in a boat and folks not really able to discern a difference in quality is probably spot on.

At $39.99 it's a little less expensive than replacing your RF head unit and will enable CD quality sound to play when streamed from your AptX Android device

As far as the variants go, plain old AptX will be essentially impossible to distinguish from AptX HD or other versions in a boat. So don't get too fixed on seeking out the optimal version, even if your music is all 24 bit FLAC - any AptX will do great.

Aslan had a nice find with the JL Audio bluetooth adapter above. I'm mentally filing that away for retrofitting an old car.

So true John. That is essentially what the other CobaltChat forum link I posted above emphasized (on page 3).

Since we are I-phone people in our family, the AptX tech just isn't that important to us. Even so, streaming lossless or even lossy audio to a mobile system really is not on our radar. We just want great functionality, ease of use and good audio codec.

Now for our home audio system where I can hear the diff, well now that's a different story. Audiophiles unite.
