Engine Feedback
So I added a six Channel JL amplifier to my factory speakers over Memorial and was impressed with the improvement it made. However as soon as we got on the water I noticed engine feedback in all six channels when the motor is running. I have since tried adding a ground loop isolator but it did nothing. The amp is grounded to the main battery ground. Also tried grounding the amp directly to the head unit ground but it didn't help. Any thoughts in what to try next?

Re: Engine Feedback
The radio and the amp have to be grounded at the same spot. If your amp is at the battery run your radio grd to the same spot.

Re: Engine Feedback
Like BBP said you want to make sure the amp and head unit are grounded to the same spot. If you want to check to make sure this is the issue run a ground wire from the head unit to the ground wire on the amp itself.
It's a hack, but its a quick test to make sure this is your problem. If this resolves it bite the bullet and run a full ground wire from the head unit back to the same spot as the amp ground, either on the battery or on the main ground block on the transom.
If it makes you feel better I had to do the same last season.

Re: Engine Feedback
I just bought my 2004 262 and am having the exact same issue. The previous owner upgraded in 2017 with JL speakers, sub, amp, and Fosgate Wetsounds tower speakers. The system sounds great but the feedback is driving me crazy when cruising, so I’ll have to try this hack on mine. Does the feedback seem to get higher pitched as the RPMs increase?

Hey C313. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!
That’s basically the exact same setup we have on our 263.
RF head unit and remotes.
Jl Audio speakers and amp for inside boat audio.
Wet Sounds tower speaker and amp for outside boat audio.
RF sub.
No feedback at all. As mentioned above, it’s absolutely necessary to have the amp and head unit grounded to the same spot. Do the ground wire hack the nautis discuss.
Any pics?
Again welcome aboard mate.
