1985 CM23 Sadly For Sale - $17500 or Offer

Post by nolaboater99 »

In 1982 Cobalt introduced the first of the “C” Series boats with the CS7. The design of the “C” Series boats were innovative and slightly ahead of their time. In 1983, they followed up with the CS9, the CM9, the CS23 and the CM23. The CM23s were produced for only 3 years with a production run of only 84 boats. In 1985, the year of mine, they only made 15. The serial # on mine is 015 making it the last known CM23 produced.

My CM23 came with a Mercruiser 260hp/Alpha I engine package, the only one ever offered. CM stands for “Center Mount” referring to the placement of the engine. Also called a “ Jackshaft Model” parts are still available from Merc. I originally bought this boat with a boat partner in November of 1989 in Long Beach, CA. In 1998 I exited the partnership but had a chance to buy the boat in 2014.

I have spent the last 4 years restoring and updating the boat. The current motor is a 383 Stroker motor with a recently rebuilt Alpha I drive. The interior of the boat is all new and updated with new carpet, upholstery, cuddy cushions, gauges, controls and stereo. All of the cabinets and bulkheads came originally with a teak-look formica an was in poor condition. I rebuilt all of it an covered all with real teak veneer finished with 4 coats of urethane. There is way too much more to list but I am happy to discuss. It comes on a 1994 Pacific galvanized trailer that is not pretty but has all new running gear.

I have over $25,000 in this boat and had plans to ever sell but at 70 years old my wife and I have decided to get out of boating. It’s time for someone else to enjoy this beautiful boat. I am asking $17,500 but open to discussing sane offers. I am located in Covington, LA in the New Orleans area. I have also listed it on the "Cobalts for Sale" Facebook page as well as the Cobalt page. If interested send me a PM and we can arrange to talk.

I ran across your writeups on your forum and spent a lot of time yesterday reading them. You did a lot of work and the new owner of that boat has a gem on their hands now.
