2007 Cobalt 200 Speakers Replacement

Post by jlefner »

Hi all,

I am looking to replace my SONY XS-MP1610W speakers for my 2007 200. Any leads on same or similar speakers with same cutout size and depth so that I don't have to re-cut the insert slots. Thank you!

Hey jlefner. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

6.5” is normally a standard speaker size in most Cobalt runabouts. That’s what those Sony’s are. Lots of options in that case. I’m a JL Audio fan for inside boat audio. Our site administrator just installed Roswell. Polks are too bright for my taste. Wet Sounds is another option although we like their horns for outside boat Audio. Check out Creative Audio website.

Any pics?

Again welcome aboard mate!

speakers were off my a 1/8", but I think your better to look at a whole system on a 2007 boat and maybe buy a stereo piece each year or maybe search this fall/winter for system sales. I think I'd have a radio plan. good luck

also search this forum lots of stereo discussions....

We just intalled four new JL Audio 6.5's in the front four spots, they fit without any problem. You'd have to drill new mounting holes, but that's easy.
They'd fit in the back speaker locations as well, and would sound great there, but we upgraded to a pair of 8.8's.
Let's just say I'm a fan!

I have a 2007 200 as well and put an entire new system in it last year. You can search this group for "My stereo upgrade summary", or ATX Cobalt. On my second season with it and it still sounds, and works great. Reach out if you need any help.

Looking to replace Sony Speakers in my 2007 232 BR. do I need to replace wiring to each speaker? Does anyone know what the typical Stock Sony set up was? Just bought the boat but have not been able to fully inspect the stereo....was there Sony receiver, & Amp?
Thanks

You don't have to replace the wires. Sony junk head unit. It's 14 years old. Hard to say if it has a separate amp. Normally only if it has a sub. Most 6.5 speakers will fit in there. The brand depends on what you want to get out of it. How much do you want to spend and replace.

Hey GC. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

BBP is correct....no need to replace that wiring. You'll read some threads in the forum where folks who do replace the wiring but that is mainly in newer Cobalt models where there are more speakers than amplifier inputs and the speakers get wired in series vs in parallel. When redoing the boat stereo to power each speaker independently from an amp the series wiring needs to be reconfigured to parallel. Yours is straightforward though.

Get a nice JL Amp and JL Audio speakers and you'll be set. An easy solution is the JL Audio M800 8 channel amp which can power six speakers and the remaining two outputs are combined (mono bridged) to power a subwoofer.

Looking forward to your pics....and again, welcome aboard mate!

Thanks for the advice on the Stereo. I think its a question of budget. From the sound of it I can easily swap out the Sony system for the JL speakers & receiver.....Less than $2k. Or pull everything out & have a whole new system professionally installed for a lot more.

Question about Carpet replacement. I am looking to replace the carpet in my 2006 Cobalt BR. I've looked at MarineMat. as well as ULTRADECK.CA

Online both look good and the price point is similar. Any thoughts on this style of flooring? Thanks
