Debadging the "COBALT" lettering?

Post by Zbrown5 »

Last weekend i tied up in an overnight slip without a lift, and the bumper i rigged between the boat and the dock rests right on the COBALT lettering on my 262. I now have a port side that says CO LT and a stbd side that says COB LT.

Would you guys spend the money on new letters or just debadge the words and leave the crest?

Nope we spend the money. Can your dealer and get them installed. Check eBay just in case they have some.

any dealer has the letters and on a 262 you can buy single letters.

Fender placement is key on cobalts. Either get them behind the lettering or in front. Also when tied up to a slip over night. 4 correctly tied dock lines and you do not even need bumpers.

I replaced some of mine and it seems like they were about $15 +/- each letter. Removed old glue, cleaned and replaced.

I had a COBA for some time. I replaced them. I got individual letters from a dealer on candlewood lake in Connecticut

My wife still calls our boat "Coba T" despite me buying a replacement "L" the week we lost the letter five years ago. Given that this is such a known issue with Cobalts, it seems like an opportunity to improve customer service and maybe even drive dealer visits for a net benefit t to the company.

If Cobalt were to provide letters to dealers and instruct them to fix broken letters on boats brought in for free, I suspect it would pay for itself in additional sales resulting from bringing people in to the dealership. Plus, the goodwill value exceeds the dollar or two it probably costs to produce each letter.

Or, perhaps get your engineers to innovate a bit and find a way to embed the metal letters in the boat at least partially so they're not prone to coming out? It's been done in concrete and other materials already - https://www.cut-metal-letters.com/uploa ... 1_orig.jpg

I'm the oddball
I wouldn't replace, I'd strip them all, and if I thought it needed lettering, I'd go with vinyl.
Those raised letters are a pain when it comes to maintenance, bumpers, etc.
That being said, I have had letters come loose and have reattached, maybe when I see side without any raised lettering I could change my mind.

Vans your crazy 😂
I made my crownline naked. The added viynl. It was fine on that boat as it made it look current. Cobalt well it's just Cobalt. Viynl on one would just make it look cheap.
