Navionics/ Sonaphone/ Bad Elf/ iPad
Does anyone have a photo of Navionics set up on an iPad? I'm thinking about going with Navionics on an iPad mini with Sonaphone and Bad Elf. I downloaded the free trial of Navionics on my iPhone but wasn't really impressed, had trouble navigating the app, etc. I'm thinking it might be better with the paid subscription, GPS but wanted to check to see if anyone had experience with this set up. Thanks in advance!

Yep. I run it all the time. I love it. In fact used it all last week on Lake of the Ozarks.
I don't have Sonaphone, but do run Navionics with the Bad Elf GPS. I only need it to keep me out of skinny points and water on lakes I'm not familiar with. I ran aground once on a point and that was enough for me.
See pic. It was in my driveway so no speed shown on the Navionics.

I’ll post some pics later, haven’t installed the sonarphone yet but this is the exact combo I’m going with. Navionics is awesome, way better than my Lowrance HDS5.

Try CMAP. I like that. Get cool data. I like running all day then seeing what speeds I do.

I use the Nav app for everything from trip planning, to weather forecasting, to not getting grounded. The free version is skimpy on geographic details and functionality. The paid version, which is cheap for U.S. only maps at about $15, is rich with both. If your Mini has GPS, you don't need Bad Elf. But you'll need a power source, as the GPS is a power hog.PeteD7 wrote: Tue Jul 28, 2020 10:42 am Does anyone have a photo of Navionics set up on an iPad? If I use the subscription can I download a lake map onto the iPad at home and then use it on the water? Thanks

If you want positioning, route planning, real-time weather info (and some other features), then you need either reliable cell service or GPS. (I would not rely on cell service while on the water or in the air.) Absent either of those, the app is basically just a chart on your device.PeteD7 wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2020 8:31 am If I use the subscription can I download a lake map onto the iPad at home and then use it on the water? Be sure your device's OS is compatible with the app's latest requirements. BTW, there are GPS-enabled Galaxy Tabs for about $150.
