I agree that smaller engines need to rev higher, but the 380hp is a 6.2 (not the 5.3), that's why I'm wondering about the sound level - Volvos in general and the 380hp.
Thanks

Mines a older Volvo but yes it's way louder than my Mercs. That being said I was next to tgrace98 all last week and couldn't even hear his running. Tuscany says his is loud. Tgrace98 well I think it was not even a issue. Mines way louder I think. Volvo runs the exhaust much differently. That's another reason I didn't add CC yet🤔

I don't have Captain's Call because I'm cheap! Lol.
Actually, might have had it if it had been the only boat dealer had.
Right now, people are buying whatever is on the lot at dealers. Would love to be a boat salesman right now. Practically none of the dealers on our lake have any inventory.

I went from a Cobalt 210 without EVC to an R3 with it and would say the fly by wire throttle on its own is worth it. Lots of additional features available if you have a glass cockpit. The trim assist has worked well for me. It seldom adds more that 7% and I’ve not experienced any porpoising.

That is good information, especially with an R3 since I'm looking at an (fairly similar size) sc23. Did you ever try to compare sound/dba levels with a Merc or is it just so close it doesn't matter?

I never had the opportunity to compare the two engines as my dealer only brings in VP (and I didn't water test anyway). I suspect they are pretty similar though. I'm noise sensitive and was concerned about engine noise, but the truth is you can't hear the sound system cruising at 30 mph unless you crank it way up, which at an idle would be painfully loud.

I don't do a lot of talking to passengers while underway due to wind and motor noise unless they are right beside me. I think you can expect a fair bit of noise from the engine. Some might say the big block motors (380/430) are a bit quieter because they spin 800 RPM slower at the same speed, but again, I have no experience with those engines.

I stand when I drive the boat so I hear the wind noise more than the motor. And I turn the stereo up so I can hear it over the wind. Problem solved! 😎

It’s the same as in a Porsche 911 at highway speeds. You can turn the radio up so that you can hear it, but wait until you come to a stop and note how loud it is.

I was out on my R3 last night and measured 84db in the captains seat at 26 mph. So, to get meaningful sound quality I measured 90db from the sound system. Over long periods of time that is hearing damage territory, but to each their own.

I drive the boat for maybe 30 minutes at a time so I think I will be fine. But thanks for looking out for my ears!

Studies show that hearing loss can and may start at 85 decibels and up. Terrifying news.

I wonder what dB a impact wrench is? I'm pretty sure that's what caused my hearing loss. Bobrae can you help me in that one.
I'm sure the black Sabbath concerts helped too. 😂😂
