.
Depends if you are talking at idle, cruising, or WOT.
Here is a sampling of decibel levels from a 300 horse Mercury OB Verado done on a 25’ Sea Ray.

I assumed Big Block Power was doing an "apples-to-apples" - but dosen't appear so based on the chart.

This one is hard to get info on. Every engine and every boat and every rpm has a diff decibels.

Hey there! For reference thought I’d share. Just ordered an outboard 23sc myself. By chance the dealer had both of the boats your looking for next to each other. The 23sc is about a foot deeper hull. Sits taller on the water, and has a nice head. It also has dual garmins standard. I ordered the v8 verado 300 on mine. Here’s a picture of the dealer lot:

Good perspective - thanks. I went back and forth, but am leaning toward the SC23. I think it will be a little flatter ride, the lower "dash" will be better for my wife to see over and better sightlines for stern passengers. Again, our use is to/from restaurants and short sightdeeing cruises - no watersports or long periods of time on the water.

Welcome from Gull Lake, MN!go4it wrote: Wed Jul 29, 2020 2:22 pm Being in MN once it's winterized that's it - NO chance of using it until spring. So, that aspect doesn't enter in except for the ease of winterizing it (agree with your thinking though).
For freshwater I’d go with the I/O to get the swim platform and a bit quieter at cruising speed. We have a 350 Verado on our Marker One and it’s damn quiet for a sunset cruise at 7 mph but noisier at 25 mph than the 380 VP in our R5 Surf.

MnLakeBum - I'm definitely leaning your way regarding the I/O. Since I want to go with the 380 VP how do you like yours? Why did you choose VP over Merc (not trying to ask a loaded question, just get your perspective).
Re: Outboard vs I/O - which is quieter?
Forgot to ask - is servicing a VP an issue where you live? Thanks
