Newbie Questions: 2004 Cobalt 200

Post by CptMorgan »

We picked up a 200 Cobalt w/ 350 MAG MPI on the weekend for the lake, to replace our dead Larson. (Major upgrade :D )

A few newbie questions after our first few days with the boat:

1) Every system, switch and light on the boat works! Except the Tach & Speed needles don't move at all. Not even a vibration when powered on. Wiring looks okay. Common issues? Any suggestions?

2) Can the factory Faria water/air temp gauge be turned to Celcius?

3) I'm amazed the 16-year-old factory stereo and dash remote work perfectly. The sound is surprisingly good. I swear there is a subwoofer in the port console, but I can't see one. The wiring diagram shows an amplifier on the boat somewhere too. Is there a hidden factory sub and amp somewhere? Is there an auxiliary input for the old Sony stereo? I'd like to add a Bluetooth input, without ripping the stereo and remote out.

4) I'd like to add Silent Choice / Captain Call selectable exhaust. There is not much room on the transom under the swim grid. Looks tight. Anyone recommend an aftermarket package or kit for this little boat?

5) Is there a grease/lube point for the throttle/gear control. It's a bit sticky in and out of gear.

Thanks,
-Morgan

.
Hey Morgan. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

What year 200? I'm guessing a 2004 based on your post?

The speedometer is analog and water pressure thru the pitot tube on the outdrive makes the needle move. Your Tach may be dead but check the circuit breaker under the helm.

You can install a Sony MEXM100BT for bluetooth (or a DSXM55BT w/ no CD cabpability) if you want a quick stereo fix. We pulled out our 2005 Sony unit and went with that for a temporary solution before doing a larger install.

Captain's call is a necessity. Make it fit. :D

Again, welcome aboard mate.

Sure!
...and I think you are stuck with Fahrenheit.

Feel free to read this thread regarding F/C selection on a Faria Air/Water temp gauge.

Where do you boat?....Europe? :D

Any pics?

Your going to be looking at new throttle and shift cables.
Captains can is a project. I think the is a set on ebay and greatlakesskipper is selling it. Yes it's a tight fit. Corsa marine exhaust is the go to for this. Switch out the head unit. It's easy. You can get at the back of the radio easy after you remove the carpet panel in the port side storage compartment. If there is a amp is in there.
Your speedo is prob plugged at the drive unit. Do you have a b3
