Trim Switch

While running around a local lake last night I noticed my boat slowing down while I was trimming up. At first I thought I was imaging it, but I was able to replicate it a few more times. I figured my batteries just weren't fully charged so I ran a little longer and tried it some more. It didn't seem to happen again.

When I pulled the boat out and got the truck in a parking stall I trimmed the drive all the way down to let the water drain out of it. When I went to put it back up I had nothing. The down switch worked, but the up switch did not. I jiggled the throttle assembly a little and it started to work. It would only go up a few inches and then it would stop again. I kept tapping on and jiggling the throttle and was able to get it to come all the way up.

I'm not very good with electrical issues, but I would like to try and figure this out on my own if I can. I didn't have any time to mess with it last night, but what am I looking at here? My trim gauge quit working on one of the first trips of the year. I'm fairly certain this is a sender that went bad, and I will address that in the off season, but could they potentially be related?

I think there is a definitely a short in there and that is why I felt the boat surging while trying to trim up.

Dude I didn't even look at who wrote this. How did your throttle princess not have this fixed yet. Man you are having a great year. Any suggestions on where to get gas at TRL?

LOL The throttle princess is up to her ears in homework! She DID help me change out the spark plugs on Sunday though.

I can tell you I will NEVER buy gas at Rock Lane again. I put 30-35 gallons in there, ran for maybe 15 minutes afterwards, and then got chased off by a a storm. Put the boat on the trailer and came home the next day. The next time out the boat would barely start, had no power, backfired, etc etc etc.

Tried new plugs and it did the exact same thing Sunday. Last night I dumped 2 cans of red HEET and 2 cans of Seafoam in the tank, drove 20 miles to stir it up, and dropped it in the lake. It started immediately and runs like a demon. Ran most of the gas out last night. I'm going to change the fuel filter and fill up on land when we head back to TRL in a few weeks. Crazy stuff, but glad it was a $25 fix.

Do you have a trailer trim switch? Does that move the drive up? I currently have the same problem, but I suspect it’s the trim limit switch that has failed. I can trim down from the throttle, but have to trim up with trailer trim.

No it doesn’t have a trailer switch.
