New member new to me boat

Post by romancecoffee »

Hello,
Just got a 1989 cobalt 19br. I cannot believe how smooth it handles boat traffic and white caps. Of course I am coming from a 70’s Starcraft 16’ aluminum :) It does bow rise something fierce when pulling a tube. Is there room for smart tabs with the swim platform being so low? I am hoping to give it a good gelcoat buff this week. This is my first post and one of the pics is giving me an error. We’ll see what happens...

Hey RC welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

Yes the site is being finicky this morning and our founder is currently working on the coding to fix the internal server errors.

Thanks for posting pics. Any of the transom? That will help with knowing about trim tabs.

Again, welcome aboard mate!

Yea not sure smart tabs will fit?
I guess I would look at props. What's on there now.
Is the drive dusty or all chalky?

It was just dusty from sitting in a garage for 3 years. Nauticus emailed me back and said I need 10” of clearance from the edge of the hull. I will measure that and check the pitch of the prop. It is a normal looking aluminum 3 blade.

15x17p prop and looks like 1.50 gears. I have not had a chance to test WOT rpm yet. But if I remember right 3000 rpm was in the 28-30mph range. But my wife says I don’t remember right very often... :)

Dudley67 that looks real nice. Now I just need a nice workspace like that out of the snow during the winter :)
Big Block Power I ordered a 14.5x17p 4 blade so we will see if that helps. Thanks!

It should be pretty close to the ideal prop size and pitch I would imagine. This weekend I was cruising at 39mph by gps, into the wind, with a 3 person tube tied down to the sundeck catching wind, 3 adults, 4 kids, and sitting around 4200 rpm I think it was and with throttle to spare yet. We had a brand new Starcraft deckboat die on us after 20 minutes in the water this summer... It was a long and annoying process but we got the loan cancelled. In hindsight, it was a blessing because this cobalt is way smoother riding and has way more character!
