More of a Slip fan, but enjoy the Barr Brothers as well. My best friend was actually Brad's drummer in his first band in middle school when Andrew was still young and learning. HahaDriller wrote: Wed Mar 07, 2018 5:24 pm Still doing a little after work, work. Need calming background music.

As my handle would suggest, I'm a Deadhead first and foremost, but like many kinds of music

Hey Driller, enjoyed your tribute to John Prine. Living in Ky. And growing up in a coal town, “Muhlenberg County” has always been one of my favorite songs. He was a neat guy and had a simple way of saying things. Thanks

Wow Driller, that was good! A beautiful tribute to a great singer songwriter!Driller wrote: Thu Sep 03, 2020 10:17 am John Prine passed due to Covid on April 7th. He was 10 years older than me. He was like that big brother I never had, who has headed off into the world and periodically drops in back home, doling out wisdom and life lessons. He was a lighthouse. For more than 40 years of my life I waited for album after album. Listening, grinning, and thinking through song after song. Upon hearing of his death, I thought of all his songs and the great lines in them. The thought occurred to me that a lot of these lines, which had etched themselves into my memory, could stand alone, I sat down and put together this song, primarily using words and images from John's work. When I listen to it, it makes me think of John's songs, but also it tells how I felt upon hearing the news. I'm not much of a musician or singer, but I wanted to pay a tribute to John.
I'm glad your back, if even if only to stop by to say hi

Now that is very cool Driller. You are quite the musician in my book. Nice job my friend.
...and thanks for introducing me to John Prine. Hopefully he is entertaining with the big choir upstairs now.![]()
Surprised you haven't heard of him. He was from the midwest and started performing in Chicago (although he spent a lot of time in Austin and is an officially adopted Texan). He put his first album out in 1971 and followed with another 25 albums over the years. He has been nominated for 12 grammy's and won 3 times. He won last year for his album "The Tree of Forgiveness". A really all around nice guy, if you get time watch a few interviews and live performances, it comes through.
Yes he must have eluded me Driller. I’m currently in Nashville and I saw this shirt hanging as they were playing his music in Ernest Tubbs’s record shop on Broadway. Thought of you buddy.

Re: What are you listening to.....
Labor Day weekend, the U2 channel on XM did the U2 top 100 hits. We kept missing the top 20, but I can guess being a U2 fan.
During the celebration, the mentioned they were celebrating Van Morrison's 75th birthday.
Therefore, last week end was a Van Morrison weekend. If you get a chance, take a listen to the whole album, "Poetic Champions Compose."
Very good boat music.

I was really never a huge fan till I saw him play. He changed my mind forever. I truly think he was the best. Incredible talent. No one played like he did. His fingers were magic. If you ever get to watch interviews with him do so. I learned so much. Sad day for Rock and Roll.AsLan7 wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 4:48 pm.Big Block Power wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 4:38 pm Wow I didn't hear about that. So sad. I saw him live. Great great guitar player. Roger that. I’ve seen a few. Jimmy Hendrix Jimmy Page and Eddie all were supernatural on the guitar.

Saw Van Halen twice ... EVH blew my mind, at least what there was of it. Gotta add Stevie Ray Vaughn to the other greats listed above. I have absolutely zero musical abilities, and I’m always in awe seeing masters at work.AsLan7 wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 5:16 pm.Big Block Power wrote: Tue Oct 06, 2020 4:54 pmI was really never a huge fan till I saw him play. So true about SRV L2HAR. Probably could mention Clapton and Jeff Beck in the same breath as well. Masters of their craft.
