new trailer what wheel size?
new trailer what wheel size?
So the dealer just emailed me the trailer order to sign off on (Heritage for a CS23). They have 14" wheels listed, my gut tells me to just pay the difference now and get 15"s now. We plan on pulling this 500 miles at a time several trips a year. Will the 14"s last with this?

I don't see any reason why 14s wouldn't last. But...I'd go with 15s for a better tire selection in the future.

Re: new trailer what wheel size?
Not long ago, trailers were 13 and maybe 14 inches, and my old BMW 3 series came standard with 15” wheels. Wheel sizes have crept up, but smaller wheels are perfectly capable on a trailer and will last just fine.
As thunder pointed out, trailer tires are now as easy to find in 15” and sometimes even 16” as 14”, so the slightly smoother ride of a 15” may be worth the minimal extra cost.

Re: new trailer what wheel size?
Upgrade to the 15’s and most importantly try to upgrade to at least a load range D tire. I’m sure the standard tire would be a load range C. Load range E would be better but probably not necessary with a CS23.
Re: new trailer what wheel size?
It’s not about wheel size, it’s about tire weight rating.
The reason you see so many RV trailers on the shoulder of the road with blown tires is because the manufacturers spec tires to the weight of the trailer and no more. They are right at the max rating To save money, and the results are often not pretty.
Do yourself a favor, spec a tire that will add a couple thousand pounds of weight ratings in the bank.
I ordered E rated 16” tires to make sure there would be no issues. I’ve got about 3K lbs of wiggle room, and that puts my mind at ease when towing.

Re: new trailer what wheel size?
I sent them an email requesting 15". I should have mentioned my work car has 14s and the tire selection sucks lucky to get 50000 mile tires part of the reason I'm asking. I've also seen cheaper car trailers with them on and they just look disportioned. I guess its better to spend a couple hundred now then 800 later

I'd go with 15's also. I have an old VW bus and it is getting really hard to get 14's LT's or with enough sidewall to support a bus (Hankook is about the only one left!) . While I know trailer tires are a different beast, I think staying with current trends will make things easier down the line.

Its a $475 upgrade to 15" with the same wheel package. Seems to me thats pretty expensive when I now darn well that it will come with generic tires.. Ugh I guess this is what happens when you leave a deposit on the boat and "They will get back to you on Monday with the trailer becuase they dont normally sell Heritage Trailers"

That looks very nice. I may have to change the trailer color to blue from gray. We picked gray in case we trade boats in a couple years.Tuscany wrote: Sun Sep 13, 2020 4:35 pm It’s not about wheel size, it’s about tire weight rating.

The RVs may also be dealing with tire age issues - something everyone should keep in mind.
I did finally concede to the price increase. Heritage replied to me that this size trailer does not come with 15s and they would also need to change fenders to accommodate tire upgrade. 15s are standard on 26' and up.

Re: new trailer what wheel size?
Unless you are dead set on buying a Heritage trailer you should look at Loadmaster trailers out of Port Clinton Ohio. That’s what Tuscany and I have. My new trailer is by far the best pulling and easiest loading trailer I have ever had! Heritage makes a nice trailer too but Loadmaster’s are better IMO. They are also GREAT people to work with! They actually answer the phone and return every email!dustinm wrote: Mon Sep 14, 2020 9:39 am Its a $475 upgrade to 15" with the same wheel package.
