Have you seen the Sea Ray/Overhulled videos by Frisco Boater on youtube? Great documentation of the process.

Yep! I caught onto his videos last year maybe? Great stuff. I’ve bookmarked a few other videos that have solid examples of how to do it right.capn272 wrote: Thu Sep 10, 2020 8:27 am Have you seen the Sea Ray/Overhulled videos by Frisco Boater on youtube? Great documentation of the process.
I’ll summarize my plan for the group when i get a chance.

Unfortunately they're not. I drilled a half dozen or so core samples and most showed signs of moisture. So not sure where to go from here. I don't have the free time or energy for a full resto so I'll probably end up selling it as-is for whatever I can get for it. Oh well. I learned a LOT which will pay dividends in the future.

Sorry to hear that! I was hopeful for you!
On the plus side, it feels like there are a few more boats popping up for sale over the past week or so now that the season seems to be winding down.

Is your engine good? I might have a boat that's good for a grand for you? I think he put it on fb marketplace. He works with me.capn272 wrote: Wed Sep 16, 2020 8:41 am Sorry to hear that! I was hopeful for you!

Carb needs a tuneup and new intake manifold gaskets are needed. I'm still considering completing the project and using it as-is for a few seasons but need to drill a few more larger core samples to see just how bad they are. Maybe even cut open the fiberglass casing in a few places to get a better visual. Transom passes the hammer test but further inspection is needed this weekend if I have time.Big Block Power wrote: Wed Sep 16, 2020 7:23 pmIs your engine good? NWA, your dedication and tenacity towards this project is enviable. I am truly impressed. My ADD would have kicked in a long time ago, and the boat would not have even been washed at this point. Best of luck. Just wow.

[EDIT] It also helps with stress relief. I needed a project to wrench on..

Re: 1987 21 BR Project
I'm still here. Not much happening with the boat lately due to work deadlines and honey-do's. I was hoping to have finished the floor repair and carpet installation before winter hits but that hasn't worked out. If the weather stays decent and I'm able to step away from work a bit my next project is to re-seat the intake manifold and re-install the carb which I just had rebuilt. Outside of that, I'm not sure what else I can realistically get done over the winter.
I did remove the swim platform a while back as 3 of the 4 brackets were bent due to the previous owner backing into something. Ideally I track down replacements of the same dimensions but I'm not optimistic on that happening. The other option is to buy new brackets which will undoubtedly have different hole patterns so there's some filling and drilling needed.

I have a 1987 21BR too. I have restored to to great condition except the rear bench seat has a split and the vinyl is no longer made. I'm looking for either a seat or some of that material. If anyone has any suggested I'd appreciate it. I have tried Cobalt and GLS.

Awesome! Have any pictures of your boat?patenter wrote: Mon Jan 25, 2021 4:45 pm I have a 1987 21BR too. Yeah, I trashed my rear bench. I'm going to take a stab at building my own but I could end up outsourcing it too. We'll see how I'm feeling about it when the time comes. For now I'm focused on the engine.

Any decent metal shop can fab new brackets off the old ones.NWABoater wrote: Mon Nov 16, 2020 3:59 pm I'm still here. Not much happening with the boat lately due to work deadlines and honey-do's. We spend a couple weekends each year on beaver. Can be found in one of the two following boats.

I actually reached out a shop a few times this spring see if he could bend them back into shape but I haven't had time to swing by there yet. Maybe fabricating new brackets is the way to go though. Good idea.Macarokks wrote: Sat Apr 17, 2021 11:37 pmAny decent metal shop can fab new brackets off the old ones.NWABoater wrote: Mon Nov 16, 2020 3:59 pm I'm still here. I've watched a couple YT vids recapping those events on TR. Looks like a lot of fun! I'll definitely try to make it up there and will look out for you on Beaver..
Project Updates:
Installed the new flooring this past weekend. It was my first time glassing so we'll see how it turns out.
On the mechanical side, I reseated the intake manifold, installed the rebuilt carb and hooked everything back up. Seemed to be struggling to get fuel and I didn't see any fuel in the carb even after pumping the throttle. It did fire up with the help of starter fluid but it was only momentary. Not sure what the deal is. Anyway, i paused on this to get the flooring installed so now that's done I'll come back to sorting out the engine.
Once it's running I'll service the outdrive and take it for a sea trial and from there finish with interior work (carpet, new seats, etc)
