Need help with paint colors
I will be getting my 360 professionally painted this winter as the gelcoat is starting to show its age (I have it professionally detailed every spring and I just can not keep up with the sun fading anymore). I am planning on keeping the Navy color of the boat but do not really care for the yellow stripe on the boat. Any suggestions on a new color to replace the yellow stripe? I am far from artistically inclined.

Well, there is always the classic nautical red stripe against the navy. You can't go wrong there. You could also go with a cool gray (navy being a cool color). Using cobalt color names, the Shale or Frost gray would make a nice stripe. Orange is the true compliment of blue (using artistic terms) and would also work well. My favorite would be the Navy/Shale/White combo, though.
You can always look to a favorite sports team with Navy uniforms and check their color schemes for reference.

Thank you. I just realized that Cobalt has all these colors on their website to design a boat. Makes it very easy to visualize. I agree, I think I like the Navy, shale, white combo the best.

I ordered my new R5 with that colorway, but before it went into production. I saw two other boats near me on the lake with that scheme, so I decided to change it to Bayside Blue/Frost/White. If it ever gets here, I will find out how well I did.

Why not another navy stripe?
IMO, one of the best combos is simply navy and white.

I didn't know you could change colors. I thought the color was the color of the gel coat, not paint.
Anyone clarify this?

He's not putting gel back on it. Painting over it like a wall.Krob1114 wrote: Tue Sep 29, 2020 5:06 am I didn't know you could change colors. I thought the color was the color of the gel coat, not paint.

Re: Need help with paint colors
I would contend that the "professional detail" is merely applying a coat of wax. Cobalts have very thick, deep gelcoats that can be brought back to their original luster by more aggressive means, i.e. rubbing compound or even wet sanding. Then follow up with a polishing compound and a good wax.
It's a lot of surface area that will take you or someone a significant amount of effort, but it's worth it in the end. Once you paint, you can' t go back and the maintenance routine completely changes.
If you want to replace the yellow, have someone paint just that section. I did it on my 343 a few years ago. Made a huge difference.

Re: Need help with paint colors
The detailing did entail wet sound, compound and wax. Its still fades. The person painting the boat for me has done many boats around the area that I have closely inspected and look brand new from the factory and seem to hold up extremely well. It certainly is not a cheap thing to do but I think it will be worth it.
Right now the navy is all gelcoat, the yellow is actually a thick vinyl stripe from the factory. It has to come off to pain the hull anyhow, we are going to paint the stripe back on this time.

Pretty sure the factory never used tape for a stripe. Somebody had to add that. Anyways do Dreamsicle.

Before you decide to paint it. Please try this product.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PDqFVSMtNy4
It helped me get the look back on my navy color. It still fades in the end of the season but I have not tried wet sanding yet.
