Wake is off to one side?

Post by Mbrockman5 »

I had a new SEI 116 outdrive installed on my 97' 200 about a month ago. We took it out last Thursday to break it in some more and I noticed that when the boat is going straight, the wake looks to be angled off to the right. There was no wind or any other boats near by, so I don't think any sort of current or chop was causing it...

Is this normal, or am I just getting into my head?

There is an issue with the outdrive knocking on ¾ to full turns in either direction, which I'm scheduled to bring it back in to the shop next week to have that looked at.

I'm not sure I see what you're referring to. If anything, it's probably just the way the prop throws the wake. Bottom line is if the boat is going straight and the outdrive is straight...you're probably good.

I took a Fluid Mechanics class and I can't think of any reason.
But that was a long time ago.

Yes. Normal and glad to see that outdrive working out for you.

Oh and replace your gimbal bearing when they pull the drive this time.

Thank you, cmattj. I haven't had a chance to take it back out yet after the shop fixed it, but they said the knocking sound is no longer present. It turned out that SEI shipped the wrong seals and sent out the correct ones one the shop figured it out. They did replace the gimbal bearing again just to be safe, so as soon as there's a day that's warm enough I'll take it out for a spin (literally and figuratively speaking).
