Roswell Platinum w/tower speakers on R6, is it worth it?
Getting my R6 order finalized and was wondering if anyone can comment on the Roswell Platinum systems compared to the JL stuff that comes on the Premium audio. Either way I want the tower speakers and just need some confirmation on whether to go with the safe $6000 bet on a stereo I've actually heard or go all in with the $10,000 upgrade on something I haven't heard or seen many details on.

Hey lpr. Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!
The consensus on the forum regarding the sound options is to order the JL Audio Premium Audio. It is actually the brand many of us use as our gold standard for custom upgrades (myself included).
Others will chime in shortly.

+1 on the JL system over the Roswell. You could always swap to a better quality JL speaker down the road to make up the difference. I have the premium audio system(All JL) in my R7 with no tower speakers and it is all I would ever need.

Yessir! They are made in my town (Nashville) and I've been fortunate to be able to get a hold of a couple of them! They just sound so amazing in the right hands! Is your user name based upon the guitar? One of the finest out there IMHO.

The thing about the Roswell is that I believe it comes with 8" speakers in the cabin and transom as opposed to the 6" ones? Won't that get me some better bottom end or just more surface area to push more air?

Yes it will. I never heard the new roswell. Some say it's just fine. Is it worth 10k well not to me but hey its not my boat. I think JL and Wet Sound are a much better brand but that's just me. 8 inch over 6 inch not even a female will complain about that!?lespaulrob wrote: Wed Nov 18, 2020 5:10 pm The thing about the Roswell is that I believe it comes with 8" speakers in the cabin and transom as opposed to the 6" ones? Les Paul....only in my dreams. I've got a autographed lithograph of Jimmy Paige playing a Les Paul with a violin bow. That's as close as I'll come.
Did have a cheaper Strat once.
We have the premium sound with the Rockford Fosgate and JL speakers, no tower speakers...and we loce it.

Re: Roswell Platinum w/tower speakers on R6, is it worth it?
I have Roswell speakers in my main boat, but as an aftermarket upgrade from the stock Rockford Fosgate speakers it came with. I liked them better than Wet Sounds for in-boat speakers and thought they were pretty similar to but a slight bit better than JL audio. I got a good price on them which was the tiebreaker for me. If you do some looking around, many people prefer a horn-type speaker for tower speakers, and the Wet Sounds REV models are pretty popular for that reason.
In a nutshell, I don't think I'd pay a lot extra for Roswell over JL in a new boat, but if I started with a base stereo I'd view them very similarly in doing an upgrade.

Re: Roswell Platinum w/tower speakers on R6, is it worth it?
Alright, I just pulled together the numbers and here's my conclusion on the speakers, not the amps. Does anyone know what amps they use for each?
The price difference in the speakers seems to be in the extra pair and different type of tower speakers, extra sub, and 8" vs 6" size from the Platinum (Roswell) and Premium (JL Audio) package. It appears that based on the published power ratings that the Roswells support a higher power rating overall and have a better frequency response. I don't know if my ears are still good enough to tell the frequencies but they sure will be able to tell the 25 extra watts per speaker (in boat speakers).
Here are the numbers (sorry in advance for the lack of formatting):
Brand Type Model Size MSRP Continuous Power Peak Power Sensitivity Frequency Response Impedance
Roswell Subwoofer R1 12" 649 500 watts 1000 watts 88dB 32Hz - 250Hz 4 Ohms
Roswell Subwoofer R1 10" 279 250 watts 500 watts 88dB 35Hz - 300 Hz 4 Ohms

If Roswell is 8" all around (in the boat) and JL audio is 6.5", it's hardly a fair fight. You'll get more bass and volume out of the Roswells. I'd listen to them first if you can find a Cobalt, Malibu, or other boat with them in it. It's definitely not as well-known as JL audio either, so get used to people telling you that you should have bought JL or Wet Sounds

Ha! Yeah, I figure I'll get the "ROSWELL??? Never heard of them!" talk! haha! I ended up hearing the Roswells with 6" in boat speakers on an R30 at the dealer and they sounded unreal. Definitely in line with the JL's of the same size. I'd expect the 8" ones with extra power to blow my mind.jhnmdahl wrote: Sat Nov 21, 2020 6:38 pm If Roswell is 8" all around (in the boat) and JL audio is 6.5", it's hardly a fair fight.
