My R6 Surf build, what am I missing?

Post by lespaulrob »

Ok, so I have officially got my deposit in on a new R6 Surf! So happy to be joining such an amazing community of people and thanks to all that are hosting and contributing to this forum, it is invaluable to us folks dreaming of a Cobalt! :)

So I've got a few weeks to lock things in like colors and will do that as soon as the boat hits the "Build a boat" section of the web site which should also happen in a few weeks (leaning classic Cobalt navy and white though) but wanted to see if I'm missing something here with the features I've got priced out. Here's what I'm looking at:

VP 380 (can I get by with a 350??) I know bigger is always better but that would be an easy $7000 to shave off the top if I could.
Mooring Cover
Bow Filler Cushion
Platinum Sound (non-negotiable here...I'm going all in on the audio!)
Sof Trac mat Gunwales
Sof-Trac Floormat
Fixed Arch
Speaker Covers
Docking Lights
Battery charger (110v)
Wireless Phone Charger
Trim Tabs
Platform lighting
Wakeboard Triton Racks
Dinette Table
RGB Lights
Dual Garmin 10" screens

Have I missed anything major here for those that have surf models?

Don't skimp on the engine. Keep the 380. That's a heavy boat and it's a surf boat. Can you get trim tabs on a surf? Did you want windlass?
Does the prem sound come with a transom remote? I like the transom trim remote also.

Yeah, the trim tabs were an option and I think I can possibly use them to further shape the wave with them. I don't know about the transom remote on the platinum sound but maybe? Seems like something that I'd want there too!

As far as the windless goes, yes I WANT a windless. It really makes these things pop but man, the price of those things is crazy, especially when I'm usually in a cove that's about 20' deep or so. I *may* add it though...pushing that button has got to be cool! lol!

Hope I didn't give away too much on features here though since they haven't really been released...there is one cool one that I did indeed leave off since it's not on the current R6 page. :)

Last week I ordered my R8 SURF beside your options I added the following:

-Underwater Lighting
-Windlass
-Step cockpit Entry
-Transom tilt switch
-tow balls
-Engine 430 (380 small for r8 surf)
-Transom shower

I didn't order the speakers covers because I ordered the arch elec folding and I will order a custom made cover that will cover all the boat with the arch folded (with speakers and sunshade).

I asked the dealer for the rudder indicator, because it wasn't in the option sheet, he said in the R8 this option does not appear.

What is the benefit of the transom tilt switch for a forward facing drive on the surf versions? I’ve been trying to figure out when and why I would use those from the rear of the boat?

Thanks!

Hey crmoncada. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

Post a pic of that patriotic freedom boat when you get her delivered. Great colors. 👌🏻

That thing is optioned out...even with the rarer 430 horse. She’ll be impressive for sure.

@lespaulrob...the 380 will be the sweet spot for your size boat. Like bbp said don’t skimp on the engine size. You won’t regret it after your purchase.

Looking forward to both of your surfing pics 🏄🏾‍♀️ too. 👍🏻

Again welcome aboard mates!

I'm sure there will be Plenty of times you will want to trim it while it's in the trailer or maybe in the water? It's a cheap but convenient option and will still be better than going in and out of the boat to do it. The drive won't always stay in the down position.

We are almost certainly going with a classic navy and white theme to keep it classic. :)

I think I'm going to need Tow Balls. don't those come with it as well?

This windlass thing is going to drive me crazy...I *really* want it and for roughly 2% (or less) of the overall cost of the boat, I should probably add it so I won't kick myself later, right? :P

For a surf model I do not see any benefit as they are completely opposite of a conventional drive and do not raise the prop on "trim up".

It was a sales men recommendation, he said that I can move it easily when I wash out, and for 180 dlls (after discount) it's not a big deal, for that money it's better having it and don't use it than needing it and not having it.

On the R8 Surf (I think it's the same for R6) the price for tow balls are 0.00, you just need to select the option and the color (white or black).
