R5 mods

Post by bruceb58 »

About ready to buy a used 2017 R5.

One of the first mods I am thinking about doing is adding a curved table mount to the back seating area along with an oval table.

Just wondering what other mods people have done to their boats.

Why mess with perfection by putting on MODS?

HAHA just kidding, how about underwater lights for night rides?

Hey bb58. Welcome to the Cobaltchat forum. So glad you found us!

A pic could help us down the road. Docking lights and underwater lights are a popular mod as is adding tower speakers and an umbrella shade on the swim platform.

What colors did you choose?

Again welcome aboard mate!

The underwater lights from Boatpluglight.com are incredible. I added the 8000 lumen drainplug. Easy-peasy!

Yes. Just Make sure they don't hang below the bottom of the hull and the drive does not hit them.

Do you have any pics? I have just been on their website for 20 minutes and they look great, but also know how marketing and some photoshop can make things better.

Yes, underwater lights are actually my first mod. I had one on my previous boat. Going to put a pair on this one.

Also thinking about adding a transom tilt switch. Can anyone post a picture of what the Mercruiser tilt switch looks like and where it is mounted on the stern?

Here is where the merc trim switch is located on my R3. I would assume it would be the same. I agree it is nice to have.

Good luck and welcome to the group!

It was one of the first things we added to our 263. Makes it a lot easier to lower the outdrive just after you pull the boat out of the water at the ramp to drain the remaining water which could carry any evasive species (like zebra mussels). It's also nice while you're in the water and pushing your boat out from shallower to deeper water and getting ready to start. Just lower, hop on the boat, and fire her up.

Thank you. For me, it will likely be used for when I work on the sterndrive, removing, draining oil...Our boat goes in the Lake in May and out of the lake in October.

yeah..there is NO way I am using one of those lights that use the drain plug. That gets knocked off forsome reason and your boat sinks. I will buy transom mounted lights.

Used these on my R5. LumitecQuattro. Scariest part was drilling the hole. Easy hook up to existing harness

I think I will mount mine there too. I am not going to be putting trim tabs on the boat but I think that would be a good place even if I did. I bought the Lumitec SeablazeX2
