Hello - New Member, Model 200

First time Cobalt owner. I purchased a 2011 model 200 this summer, and have really enjoyed it. It had 30 hours on it and looked perfect until I got ahold of it. It now has 130 hours on the meter and a few minor bruises. I love the boat and plan on some more quality lake time with the family next summer. I am very impressed with quality/craftsmanship with Cobalt, and already looking to go bigger! There is 2019 R5 out there with my name on it.

Aslan7 - I'm interested in the Surf model. I have to trade in my 10-yr old wake board for a wake surf board... I'm getting too old for high speed wipe-outs. The forward drive and wake shaping on the Surf models looks perfect for water sports and a comfy ride for cruising. I put the boat in a dry stack in a small lake near me, Allatoona. Positives - I can be on the water in 25 minutes. Negatives - lake is shallow and not many amenities. Lake Lanier is much larger and deeper, but is about 1 hour from my house. I got a lot of use with the boat this summer, particularly evening cruises after work. When I upgrade to a larger Cobalt, I'll have to keep it on Lanier -- don't want to risk grounding it.

Great That’s why I was asking. If you purchase a surf model with that forward facing drive you need to make sure you’re on a deeper body of water due to the trim characteristics. You hate to trim the drive up which actually drives the props down lower.

....and your etiquette is perfect. Really our only requirement is to keep posts family friendly. You’re batting a thousand with your pic.

The boat came with the Volvo Penta 4.3GXI. It's a little under-powered, but changing the stock aluminum 14-1/8 x 19 to 14-1/4 x 23 Stainless helped a lot. I was sooo embarrassed the first time we had 5-6 passengers and tried to pull up a 120lb wake boarder. The boat couldn't do it.

Good to hear you got that figured out. A 21 stainless will help the hole shot out even more if you need that?

I’ve read that you need a depth of 10-12 ft to surf. Don’t know if it’s true. Read it on the Malibu board.

Your 2011 200 is very clean. Looks great. It’s funny how one thing can happen, and boat fever ratchets up immediately. An R5 Surf vaccine should be administered immediately, but keep in mind, a vaccine may only provide temporary immunity. I love my (non-surf) R5; it work well for me and my family.
