Here's a snap of the surf gate from that video:

Re: R6 and R8 Surf Reveal
There are a couple of things to notice in there other than the wave. Stop it at 19 seconds to see the rear view camera in the left dash screen. That's pretty cool! Also note the black trim option on the windshield with the model badges. I don't know how hot that'll get, so I'll probably lean towards the chrome.
A few more things to note.
at 0:02 on the video note the new "Surf" chrome trim on the side. I like that
0:03 notice the black windshield. Also new interior that's different from the standard R6/8.
0:05 cool underwater lights and the RGB Roswells from the platinum sound--Also it looks like the badge lighting lights up "SURF" instead of "R6"
0:09 -- that's the R8 badging on the windshield.
0:16 -- Colored "SURF" letters on the swim platform. That'll fade.
0:29 -- nice big long wave there. Looks almost up to the surfer's arm pits.
0:34 -- that's a guy wakeboarding? I suppose they have a wakeboarding mode also?
0:40 -- good waist high (or taller?) wave there.

Re: R6 and R8 Surf Reveal
Yeah, I've seen that on those boats. They don't seem to have the size of wave that the Cobalts do though. I assume that's a hull design and weight thing?

Re: R6 and R8 Surf Reveal
Oh I am sure hull design and weight have a big play in it. I would think just slapping the surf gate on a boat designed for a standard stern drive is not going to give the same results as a boat designed with surfing in mind.lespaulrob wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 8:56 amYeah, I've seen that on those boats. I'm sure Malibu/Cobalt had to work out a deal with Volvo Penta to offer the surf gate with their fwd drive setup on a cobalt. Hence why you are seeing it on other makes now. But that doesn't mean Malibu/Cobalt have to go design the entire boat for them.

Good find!! So no Mercruiser power for this model (at least not listed at this point). I like the colour graphics

Have to admit from the videos I am pretty impressed. wave looks super clean and the controls are much improved. I noticed they still incorporate zero off. I know in testing they tried to go with the complete malibu dash but couldn't get it to function properly with the volvo fwd motor/drive

Re: R6 and R8 Surf Reveal
Design you own tool is up. Its hard to tell from the video how the wave compares to a dedicated tow/surf boat. It looks a bit shorter than the one behind my friend's Centurion. Also hard to tell how much "push" it has. Notice you get a fixed arch and need to spend another $9,000+ for the electric folding pictured in the promo video.tgrace98 wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 10:28 am Have to admit from the videos I am pretty impressed. wave looks super clean and the controls are much improved. When I build one with electric arch, middle line stereo system, electric head 380hp, windlass, trim tabs and a few other goodies, it's a $215,000 boat.

246 for an R8 with similar goodies and the 430. Yikes. Assuming 20-25% discount about the same price as a nautiqueBobRae99 wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 11:48 amDesign you own tool is up. Re: R6 and R8 Surf Reveal
My dealer is sitting at 18% discount (I'm betting I can push for 20%) and a 15% depreciation on my current boat, which I think is pretty good. Anyway, its $100,000CAD plus taxes to close that gap. That is something to think about when we already have a boat to surf behind.tgrace98 wrote: Tue Dec 08, 2020 12:07 pm246 for an R8 with similar goodies and the 430. Yikes. Re: R6 and R8 Surf Reveal
I don't care for the shape of the upper hull color section - it seems to me it might get "out of date" looking, like something from the 70's. Might be just me, but I am leaning toward keeping it white (my hull side color).

Re: R6 and R8 Surf Reveal
I totally agree. Maybe it’s better in person. It is somehow out of the 70scarrera wrote: Wed Dec 09, 2020 9:59 pm I don't care for the shape of the upper hull color section - it seems to me it might get "out of date" looking, like something from the 70's.
