Transom Tilt Switch R7

Can I install the mercruiser transom tilt switch if I have volvo penta? Does it connect to current harness or do you run wires back to pump? Any help would be great. 2021 R7 thanks

You can but why not just buy the Volvo transom switch.

Either is just a single pole double trow switch. What nice about the ones made for the exact make is that it's plug and play and you don't have to put new connectors on. They are just a Y harness,

You could use the Merc one and attach a Deutcsh connector and plug it into the factory harness. I chose not to do it that way on my Mercruiser and just connect it at the pump with the supplied Y harness.

I say do the Merc one.
Cobalt manual even shows the merc one.

Rather than splice into the Volvo Penta wires, Look for a Deutsch connector in the engine compartment wiring harness and wire in a the mating connector and attach it to the trim switch wires. Better than messing with the Volvo wires. I can't remember if my boat has a 3 or 4 wire Deutsch connector so you will have to look.

You can get the Mercruiser part WAY cheaper online than at a dealer. I bought mine from PartsVu. They seem to have the best price when I bought mine.

I just looked at mine. It's a 3 pin and it's labeled Merc trim.

I would ask the dealer if the factory one will me with the correct connectors? That is worth the price in gold.

Not everyone knows how to switch connectors. This might be well worth it. I don't know this skill level of the OP.

The easiest way is to buy connectors from here and just solder or crimp. I always crimp.

Hit the easy button dealer had it in stock with connector. Yes its gold apparently. Figure I am ahead of the game installing it myself. Thanks for the help.
