He is definitely the right guy. I take him a handle of Captain Morgan every year when I go to pick my boat up after his winterizes and inspects it. He always says "you didn't have to do that". I tell him the rum isn't for the winterization. It's for if my boat breaks in the middle of the Summer next year and I need him to fix it FAST. So far that theory has worked like a champ.

What size and boat are you looking at. I'm sure it's worth it! Or else you wouldn't be looking!

Just did this for my boat last year.

Looked up a local surveyor and had him look at it for me. Mixed feelings on this. He sent a million pics, test drove the boat, and had an oil analysis done for me. BUT, he's not a mechanic and can't help much with mechanical issues. Just more or less points out what the boat has, and doesn't have to go along with the boat. When I asked him if I should buy it, he commented he couldn't answer that as it's a conflict of interest. All he can do is provide me with all the info possible for me to decide. I felt for the price of the survey, he should be able to answer that as I hired him to do that for me.

As for the money transfer, it was from a dealership, so it was smooth with my bank and them. Sorry, no help there.

The shipping was an issue for me as well. Due to the mileage I needed to be sure the trailer was up to the trip. (800 miles) It was bad enough trying to find a reputable transport service with insurance. Last thing I wanted was an issue on the way of a bad bearing or tire issue.

All in all, it eventually worked out, and i got a boat that is not available in my area.

I bought my 220 last spring right at the beginning of COVID, from a neighboring state. I bought it site unseen, but I felt good about it due to the detailed walk through photos, communication from the dealership owner and a mechanic/surveyor report (which I paid for). I mentioned COVID because all of the boat ramps were closed due to it, so I was unable to do a water test. It was my first boat and everything I've read about buying new boats highly suggests getting a water test. I didn't want to miss out on this boat and felt confident with the information I had to move forward. I did 95% of the paperwork online, so I was able to pull out if I didn't like what I saw in person. I drove to Oregon to pick up the boat and finalize paperwork myself.

Don’t know how it turned out, but would echo everyone else about paying someone to give it the once over. I had put an offer in on a boat in Fl and had it inspected. One of the engines didn’t run and the carpet was fused to the floor as it was never taken care of.

My 220 I have now like that.
1st where is it. Ask people on forums if they can put eyes on it. Before sending any money get a picture of the title, Dr license and SS number! See now your set with their info. Lol
Get them to take a current video and send it to you. The banks can do a wire transfer. Do ovn shipping on the title and keys and bill of sale. Do your homework. If it doesn't feel good don't do it.
i can verify his post. He contacted me to look at a boat on consignment at Thomas Marine in Greers Ferry, Arkansas. We was pleased to help. BBP didn't buy due to closer detailed pictures of spider cracks in gel coat.

[boat is still for sale... definitely a more complex process than I originally thought, but I'm not totally against it. Fortunately there are great people on cobaltchat that have given great insight and personal experiences, and even willing to offer their own time like Brokentoy1
Thank you for that! Will def let you know if I move forward... stay tuned.
