Aren't the tab motors always exposed? The trim tabs on the R5 Surf were as well. I have both the surf gates and trim tabs so it looks extra cluttered up in there though! lol!

I'm used to seeing the tab motors inside the boat with either wires (for electric operation) or hydraulic lines thru the transom to the tab rams.
The pressure created by these huge surf tabs is immense so a different leverage point is needed. The engineers must have concluded that this is the most cost effective way to operate these.
It will be interesting to see how this new setup holds up which is now entirely outside the hull. Being that Cobalts are primarily fresh water lake boats is a good thing. Saltwater would eat those alive.

Yeah, we are freshwater only here outside of Nashville, TN. I hope that these do indeed hold up though. I would hope that Cobalt would overbuild things, especially with such a critical component to make it surfable. lol!

I did hear that they are putting the new Fusion Apollo radio head units in the new Surf boats! I'm really happy about that one.

that was my first reaction too, yikes! salt water will kill that motor in no time.... but then I thought, well Volvo Penta decided to put the trim pumps on the OUTSIDE when they went to the new generation. So I guess they know what they are doing? lol

Very cool! So the huge tabs on the old series are now gone. That's a relief. Yes I would think tabs are a must on these.
You will have to tell us how the new stay cool fabric is in TN. Congrats man! Very sharp!

Nice! Mine is starting production now. I went conservative on the colors...white up top with a navy boot stripe, and then frost on the hull bottom. I love your colors!

My guess is they can't put them in the motor box because of the ballasts. Just a hunch haven't seen one in person. Kinda feels to me they got the boat done and thought. Well gee look here Alex we can put tabs on this beaut.

I think this is a big update over the previous generation. I remember when they first released the R5/7 surf and you would see facebookers using those surf tabs as trim tabs at higher speeds and ripping them off.
