In Boat Flush Kit

Post by dogwspts »

Anyone have the in boat flush kit on their boat . The one where you just hook a hose . Guess for Bravo 3 units or boats with raw water pumps on engine.

I installed the merc oem kit on my mx 6.2 mpi w/ bravo 3. Relatively inexpensive and not difficult to install. Has made life so much easier when flushing motor on the lift. Merc part 898235A01.

Yes, it basically puts a y fitting on the hose between the water intake and the pump on the motor. The quick connect hose routes down to the y fitting, without the motor on the water pumps down and out the intake on the sterndrive. Once you start the motor it then gets drawn up through the motor to flush and then out the exhaust.

Owed you some better shots. Red hose is intake from sterndrive. T fitting splices in freshwater quick connect hose that attaches to the front of the riser. Very easy system to use, not much to it really.

I did not. Mechanic initially quoted me 3.5 hours. Only took him about 45 minutes. Told me having all that access on the side of the motor made life easy, so tight access might make it painful.

My '06 250 came with a hose connection on the starboard side of the engine compartment (I think it's original), but the kit DeadOn04 shows was added later, and the starboard side connection was left in place but made inoperative. Prior owner actually had a tag hanging on it that read "INOPERATIVE."

He told me the original was run to a poor place to add flush water (not sure what he meant; the kit connects exactly as shown in DeadOn04's last pic. It worked okay to flush, but sometimes the quick connect fitting was a real bear to get in place.

Last weekend I rerouted the flush hose so now it runs from the original(?) starboard side hose connection to the Y fitting as DeadOn04 shows. Took me a lot longer than 45 minutes, but that's because I had to go to the auto parts store and buy a 7 foot piece of heater hose. When I get to the boat this weekend I will get some pics to post. It will give you another option for installation.

I promised pictures of our flush arrangement. We lost internet on Saturday and it took AT&T 3 days to come out and fix it. GRR! Anyway, first pic is the hose fitting on the starboard side of the engine compartment.

Second pic is the 3/4 inch heater hose running from the hose fitting to the salt water line. I used heater hose because that's what was used for the aftermarket kit. (I taped my boat registration and insurance papers to the inside of the engine compartment.)

Third pic is the hose running aft of the engine compartment lift motor

Last pic shows where the heater hose connects to the salt water intake line.

I tried putting a quick disconnect on the hose end and on the hose fitting (first pic), but I didn't like it. So I put a shut off valve on the end of the hose. That way I can close that valve, turn on the hose, get in the boat, connect the hose to the fitting, and then adjust the water flow to what I want.
