R6 Surf--holy smokes it sits high on the trailer

Post by lespaulrob »

Waiting on my trailer to arrive, here are some pics from the showroom floor on a regular R3 trailer. The ground to the top of the light measures 12 feet here and on the R6 trailer it will top 14 feet. I'm having some regrets not ordering a folding tower just in case I need to tuck it indoors somewhere, holy smokes.

Either way, though I do like the look of this tower and really like how the boat turned out. Closing on it on Saturday!

Very nice looking boat.

Crossing the 14' mark you are now going to need to watch the overhead height signs on bridges and underpasses.

It's a beautiful boat, thanks for sharing the pictures. I like the simple colour scheme too. My only thought is with the size of the Bimini with the standard tower setup. It looks really slick, but compared to my R3, it looks like only the driver and co pilot get any shade. I appreciate that you can add on a rear shade when you are floating so maybe the setup will be just fine.

Looking forward to your surf wave report once you have it broken in and are using it to surf. :)

Sharp color combo and great tower options!

Yes, looking forward to your captain's report LPR. Be careful with that down trimming outdrive in the shallows.

Beautiful boat my friend.

I just can't get over how nice the paint scheme looks. Maybe its the solid white arch? This boat will still look great 50 years from now.

Thanks for the feedback on the colors, ya'll! Yeah, I too am really happy with the way it turned out! I'll definitely be sharing my experiences (or lack thereof) on here. This group has been a fantastic help to me!

Thank you all!

Nice looking boat!! How tall is it on that trailer? If it’s around 12’ on that one the new trailer shouldn’t be 2’ taller than that one, maybe a couple inches.

This might be different with the having the prop under the boat?

Good looking boat! There are good people at Modern, that's where I looked at my first Cobalt.
I may have asked before, are you heading for Priest or Old Hickory (Old Stickery) Our previous boats were at docks so we were mainly on Old Hickory, lots of people, several restaurants, just be careful of debris after rain storms, I grew up boating on Priest, we have now been back there since we are now trailering.

Priest is rock bottom, but make sure you pay attention to the charts, OHL is more mud, but will go from deep to "whoops" within feet of channel markers.

Hope to see you out there!

I agree. I love the color scheme. Simple and classy. I bought the rear sunshade on my R6 for the same reason... stock sunshade looked a tad smaller in the pictures, but when you get on boat it actually offers more coverage than you think. And, of course, shade has to do with time of day and direction of boat - LOL.

SWEET! We live in Mufreesboro, but grew up near Tims Ford and much of our family is still in that general area so that's where we are putting the boat (still have the slip from selling the Chaparral last year). Modern Marine definitely are great folks to work with and have treated me right on both boats I have purchased from them. Well, assuming that we fit in the lift or a bigger slip opens up...we'll be at Tim's Ford...Otherwise, we will just put in dry storage on Old Hickory. lol!

Wow! What is the prop clearance there? Hard to tell but that's quite the imposing figure on a trailer! :)

I tested out the bimini top on my R6 Surf this weekend and it actually did provide great coverage - depending on height of the sun, direction, etc. As J9lake said, it's coverage is more than you would think.

Beautiful boat and options! You'll enjoy it greatly I'm sure! Congrats!

Every time I see a surf model on a trailer I cringe. those beautiful props are so close to the ground! Too bad VP didnt come up with a way to rotate the lower unit for trailering, kind of like the old Eaton sterndrives. Then you wouldn't need a sky high trailer either.
