lets see the R6 outboards!
I would love to see some pictures of the R6 ourboard's on this forum! My wife agreed I can order mine at the end of this season. I want the 350 but not a fan of the blwon V6 so either going to go Yamaha for the v8 350 or the verado 300. hoping for some input on power and experience!
I am in San Diego and do most of my boating on the bay.

Re: lets see the R6 outboards!
The Verado is a curious product line right now in that the 350 and 400HP versions are a small (2.6L) supercharged inline 6 while the 250 and 300HP versions are a big (4.6L) V8. I kind of like the new tech in the 350HP version in particular, and could see it as my choice if I bought an R6.
That said, you see tons of Yamahas in salt water, and while they're not as technically interesting as the inline 6 verados, they run really well and can do so on 89 octane gas. You don't hear of many people buying Yamahas having problems with them, or wishing they'd bought something else.
I suspect you'll be happy with either of those for quite a while.

from what I understand, isnt the blown V6 found in the 350 the old technology? also, you add 68 lbs going that route which partly undoes the extra power.jhnmdahl wrote: Mon Apr 19, 2021 1:35 pm The Verado is a curious product line right now in that the 350 and 400HP versions are a small (2.6L) supercharged inline 6 while the 250 and 300HP versions are a big (4.6L) V8. Re: lets see the R6 outboards!
I had to look it up, but the 4.6L V8 is indeed lighter than the older 2.6L inline 6. Sort of crazy. Looks like the 350 was new in 2015, but an extension of their previous (lower hp) inline 6 engines.ocurtis wrote: Mon Apr 19, 2021 4:59 pm from what I understand, isnt the blown V6 found in the 350 the old technology? also, you add 68 lbs going that route which partly undoes the extra power.
Lots of people around here run Mercury outboards (including me up until I bought my Coblat), but mostly smaller HP. They're generally reliable and not too hard to service, and continue to have a good reputation. But, when we leave MN and go to the Caribbean for some winter sun, it's the Yamahas that seem to be everywhere.

It I stay true to my plan of ordering an R6 outboard this fall, I will probably choose the 300 merc. I prefer displacement to the heaver, higher RPM I6. Also, the yamaha's (amazing motors!) are more workhorses in my opinion. they are nearly 120 lbs heavier than the merc I believe. built heavy for longevity for the long offshore hauls.

I personally wouldn't think twice if I had to order. It's merc all the way. I wouldn't even look the other way during the build.

I did the factory tour at Merc a few years ago. It's really cool. Plus my brother works for them and I'm still trying to get in there. Re: lets see the R6 outboards!
Delays, delays, delays! Saying 6/8 now. Was originally going to be delivered early April. Resin from Texas is the main issue. Freeze back in Feb. still causing problems. HOWEVER picked up my trailer last week! Since we have no pics of r6 outboards on your thread, will post one or two of the new trailer. Soon should have a r6 outboard on it...
