2014-2018 R3, R5, 24SD or 26SD

Post by mncobaltguy »

I'm looking to buy a freshwater only R3, R5, 24SD or 26SD with less than 200 freshwater only hours with trailer. Preferrably stored on lift or trailered/dry dock.

No specific opinion on engine or other features.

Willing to travel to pickup.

Thanks.

You and hundreds of other people! So glad I bought my boat in January. I could sell it for a 15% to 20% profit today.

I have an extra slip on my dock in lake Tahoe. I could rent the outer part of my dock for $5K tomorrow for the season if I wanted to. Everyone is buying a boat and nowhere to put them.

Personally, if I was looking for a boat right now, I would buy a cheap boat this year and buy the boat I really wanted next winter when prices start collapsing.

Buying a boat right now is like buying that $10 2x4 wood stud. Its artificially high right now.

I think anyone that has been paying attention is aware boat prices are high right now. It's simple economics really, supply is low demand is high prices are up. Some people are willing to pay extra to get on the water this season. Its a personal choice, obviously you would wait, but based on the original post Randy is ready to move forward if he finds something he likes.

Luckily for our friend Randy his financial decisions are his to make and have nothing to do with what you could or could not rent a slip for.

Lots of free stimulus money out there, and people are spending.
Lots of cheap money to borrow out there, and people will borrow.
Lots of people who have done well in the markets out there, and life is short.
Those who have done well through this pandemic have had their best years, and those who haven’t will come roaring back if they were tough enough to absorb a little gut punch..

If you think prices may settle back, I might argue that prices have nothing to do with Covid or shortages, but rather a lot of people have money to spend, or access to credit....and they want to spend it..
Once prices are up, they rarely fall.

This entire extra unemployment subsidy, which has removed lazy workers from open jobs has nothing to do with helping those who are struggling.
It’s all about injecting cash into the economy, and most importantly, targeting the removal of low end labor from the market... to drive up wages...and payroll taxes on the coattails.
Everyone who has worth will be making more money...and they will want to spend it.
Good luck finding the finer things in life on a discount in the foreseeable future.

I can't agree with you more. I do not think there is going to be this big cliff fall like everyone is banking on. Maybe for larger boats as they have a smaller buyer pool in general. Typically when prices rise they never return to their old value. I would think the government pumping all this cash to float the economy is only going to lead to rapid inflation which we are seeing.

Also another thing to keep in mind that new boats are selling at a lot higher value than they were 3-5 years ago. I couldn't buy an R8 street price for what my R7 went for MSRP 3 years ago. That will only drive up used values as well.

This exercise of cash injection and government made labor shortages will cripple those its intended to help. IMO, it looks good and buys votes from the middle/lower classes and those who feel like taking it to the man, and sure helps re-election. It’s simply government style election business and not personal. LOL.
IMO. the alternative autocratic choice is even more destructive to our country in short term and 10+ years, so I'm looking at this as a glass half full...

Personally, when prices start to rise, I'm all about raising our prices higher and higher because people now expect it. In the end, businesses may complain, whine, and cry poor, but truth be told, we will make a lot more money, and the new 'higher paid" bottom of the wage pool's "buying power"....(which on paper sees a raise) ... but in an inflation corrected market..doesn't move an inch.. Those who are rich will just get richer.

LOL TG... We got when the gettin' was good!

Hey Randy, not sure if you are on Facebook but this posted a few weeks ago in the Cobalts for Sale group, not even sure if still available but wanted to share. We've seen this one in person last summer in a parking lot. Was clean. Good luck with your search.

Hey Randy,
I spent the winter and early spring looking for boats too. I found that anything decent sold quickly. The first one I bid on was sold before I could get in a deposit. So when I finally found a boat, I put a deposit down on it immediately. The seller had two other people willing to show up with trailers to buy it. While it was stressful to make a big decision so quickly, it’s simply the reality of today’s market. Best of luck in your search.

X2 agree with you guys 100%

Some people are waiting for prices to come back down and it just aint gonna happen. they might flatten out or come down a little, but nothing like pre-pandemic prices. like Tuscany said, life is short, so buy the boat.
