CS23 and SBT trailer

Post by ccoulson »

Hi. My 2021 CS23 came with an SBT (SportBoat) trailer. Anybody having issues with this combo?

1. The bow support is oddly positioned requiring the bow strap to go over top the single roller pad. As a result when winching up the strap, strap hook, and bow hook of the boat all roll over the roller with hardware digging in to the rubber roller.

2. While cleaning my outdrive, I lowered it and discovered that the outdrive hits the trailer crossbar and crushed my the center brake light.

Thanks,

Without pictures of the bow stop roller setup, its hard to say, but the winch strap should always go under the roller, not over it. That should keep the boat slightly further back and maybe avoid crushing the light? Is the bow stop pedestal adjustable?

Sounds like the wench stand is too far forward and the strap like elk said should not be going around the top of the roller. Where do the rear bunks end compared to your transom?

Sorry - not getting notifications of posts to this thread. Here are some pics of the winch stand/bow configuration. You can also see how the bottom of the stern and drain plug sit forward of the trailer crossbar.

Yea just side your winch stand back a bit so you have the correct clearance. You'll be on.

Thanks Big Block. The stand doesn't slide back at all. It does telescope up and down as you can see from the two pieces. When I picked up the boat, the mechanic was also concerned about it sitting too far forward, and had telescoped the stand upward so that the roller would be above the bow ring. But in that configuration, the strap rubbed against the roller bracket (you can see the black rub marks below the roller) but that caused the strap to snap less than 5 miles after towing! That was fun to discover!

Sorry that's just wrong. Then that trailer is not made for that boat. The bow eye should be under the roller. They need to get you a new trailer and hook you up correctly. Can you take a picture like this.

If they don’t get you a new trailer they at least need to get you the correct bow stop and winch stand! Either the dealer that set that up doesn’t know what they are doing or they just plain don’t care! That thing should never have left their shop! If you raise the bow stop so it hits the boat correctly the strap will be at the wrong angle because the winch plate is welded too low on the stand causing the strap to rub on the steel below the bow stop. The way it is setup now you would never be able to crank your boat up on the trailer with the strap running up and over the bow stop like that! If the bow stop isn’t adjustable front to back then you have the wrong trailer and they need to get you the right trailer! The lower unit on a boat should never be able to contact the trailer! That’s why I am done dealing with cookie cutter boat trailers and I ordered a totally custom Loadmaster trailer!

That trailer is made for a much larger boat.

This is how a CS23 should sit on a trailer. This was also custom ordered and it tows very very well. I had electric brakes added and 15" wheels. The brakes are standard electric brakes you would find on any car trailer but I have a controller in my pickup and I like the characteristics of electric applied over surge applied.

I would check with the manufacturer, they’ll be able to tell you if that’s the right trailer, and give you ammo for the dealership. Is there a model listed on the trailer tag?

This is how my CS23 sits on the trailer. Yo9u can see that the winch is still well below the bow eye. Also, the roller height is adjustable but the winch height is not.

Have you talked to your dealer on this? What are they saying. It's so wrong.

Like we’ve said before that isn’t even close to being right. The bow roller should be on top of the bow eye and the winch strap should be pulling level not down like yours is. That will be a real pain to get the bow seated with that strap pulling down like that. You need an entirely different bow stop/winch stand.
