R6/8 Surf screen tabs option

Post by tfarmer »

I’ve watched 2-3 promo videos on YouTube for the R6/8 Surf and noticed on the surf screen a Tabs option. My R6 surf has the trim tabs option but the surf screen is missing the buttons. Can someone with a R6/8 Surf that has trim tabs confirm if they have the Tabs option on their surf screen?

I have an R7 surf, I had an A25 with trim tabs prior to this boat. I really like that the new surf versions have trim tabs as an option. Do they have the traditional rocker switches installed? Or do you haven no way to operate the tabs with out the touch screen?

My R6 surf is the same way. We haven’t messed with them while surfing yet.

Tfarmer - My R8S doesn't have the Trim Tab selection on the Surf Screen, either. I assumed it's by design so the software controls don't get overridden.

I can only conclude that sometime between making the promo videos for the new surfs Cobalt decided to remove that option from the screen. Next weekend I will try to play around with the trim tabs to see if they even work will surfing and also to see what impact if any they have on the wake.

Yeah, mine doesn't have those either. I haven't checked to see if my trim tabs work when in surf mode. The dealer said that they are disabled while surf mode is active though.

Any news about the trim tabs helping the wave? I’ve got an R6 surf on order and want to know if I should add the trim tabs.
Thanks!

Trim tabs don’t work while surfing as far as I can tell. However in my opinion they are very useful while running around with the boat full of people.

Hey K450. So glad you found us!

I didn’t think tabs and surf planes were two separate options. Our tabs help with the deeper vee and during strong crosswinds with load balancing in addition to ride control when the wind kicks up.

Be sure to post pics.

And welcome aboard mate!

I spoke with Brandon the Cobalt rep today. He has an R6 surf with the trim tabs option. He didn’t know if the tabs worked while surfing, he did say they would go down like the surf plates did on the R5 & R7 when performance mode was on. This of course gets the boat on plane quicker and allows one to move to a different spot without having to empty the ballast tanks.
I added the option for that reason alone. We’ll see if they help in surf mode.
Oh, he also said the wave is much bigger than the R5 produced:)

Woo hoo on the bigger wave. I have been trying to find any information on the R7 vs. R8 wave size and haven't found much.

Yes! I’m excited to surf behind the R6! My R5 is good but I struggle to ride the wave. I’m 6’1 and 225. Hopefully it will make a wave with more push.

For what it's worth I have the "TAB" options on my R7 when in surf mode. These tabs are referring to the Surf tabs if you wanted to manually control them instead of just hitting surf left or surf right.
Those tabs DO NOT refer to trim tabs. As such these buttons wouldn't be on the R6/R8 as they don't have Surf Tabs.

This is what I thought as well.
Transom pics of these surf models could help visualize this option. :D
