Thanks for the suggestions guys. I will definitely clean the throttle body and pick up an IAC. Also might take off the fuel pump and have it rebuild over the winter just to be safe. And yes BBP, it happens every time i fire up the boat cold start.

Sounds like the iac isn't resetting. These computers are so much slower than a car so they take a bit to recover.

So a LOT of other things have gotten in the way and finally started looking into this again. I didnt realize just how much belt dust there was until i actually inspected the motor closely... lets just say i ordered a new belt lol.

So, the flame arrestor is PACKED with dust. took it off and noticed there is some kind of sensor connected to it. Does anyone know what its for? And also I cant get it out?!?! i didnt want to break it. Will it be ok if i leave it in and use some carb cleaner to clean the screen out?

Yea belt dust is pretty common. I thought the same thing. Get a new factory belt though and keep the old one for a spare. Check your pullies for alignment. Every Volvo I have owned was the same way.
Yes that is your air intake sensor. Don't touch it or you will blow the engine up.

Just unplug it and spray the spark arrestor out from the inside out and call it good.

I guess i bought the wrong IAC valve. went to go change it and the bore diameter was larger than the old one... does anyone have a link to the correct one to buy? I had bought one on ebay that said it fit 8.1, but i guess not.

this was the one i purchased. I thought the 3857696 was the part number for the 8.1
