That looks awesome! I haven’t seen too many boats with much more than the back of the boat done. Seeing this makes me think that once I decide to go away from carpet that I might do the same.

My mica over black SeaDek arrived last night, I winterized on Saturday.
So what I'm wondering is if I should install now or wait until spring... Any thoughts on that?

I like that. Nice thought on the naked feet pad. Myself I think the sun helps it stick. So I would wait to put it on till you can get the sun to shine on it some and help stick the edges. My 2 cents.

Appreciate the input BBP, think I'll look for a warm sunny fall day and do just that.

I would remove the old decking now and wait until a warm spring day to install the new. It seems to take forever to remove the old stuff, might as well do that when it's a crisp fall day!

Fortunately it was snap-in carpet, so that wasn't too tough.

Does anyone know of the brand of decking that comes stock on Newer Cobalt R5's?
The reason I ask is that last summer we had a terrible accident on the swim platform with (generic seeming) foam decking.
Our friend stepped (completely sober, I want to add) from her boat onto our platform and slipped, fracturing a vertebra and tearing cartilage in her knee. (I'll add that this woman is a triathlete, so pretty stable on her feet) She described it like stepping onto sheer ice.
Last night, my husband did the same thing, stepping from the dock, onto the wet swim decking. Thankfully he is ok, but it could have been so bad.
He too, described the feeling of the foam decking to be like sheer ice.
My thought is that Cobalt had used some cheaper version of Seadek that isn't made for slip resistance.
Has anyone else had this experience?
(YES YES YES, boats are inherently slippery when wet. This IS NOT that.)
Does anyone have any idea how to find out what brand of decking is being used?
This is potentially a fatal flaw. If my husband had hit his head harder on the dock last night when he fell... If he had been alone...
Please help if you have any insights.

Thats interesting....I have a 17' model and have the stock marine pad on my swim platform. Cant say I've ever noticed it being slick. I think the mfg is Sof-Trac. Or at least it is currently.

Odd. I've been on plenty with it installed no issues. I think they used MarineMat. Glad he's ok. Wow sorry to hear about your friend.

I've stepped on and off of mine dozens of time while wet and it's not slippery. That's one of the main reasons I installed it, because the fiberglass without it was slippery.
Did anyone have shoes on? Bare feet? Oils or sunscreen involved? Was the boat rocking from rollers or waves?

Post some pics of the seem platform.
It is definitely marine mat from the factory.
My brother has it all over his boat, snap down on boat and stick down on swim platform.
The only time I find it at all slippery is when it has cleaner on it. I would use a stiff bristle brush and a hose and try to clean it off.
If you want to replace it get something with more design which will get you better traction.
