Wow, beautiful boat and great surprise. I am so glad to hear the 11' 6" as I have been worried that mine wouldn't fit in my toy box! My R7S would fit in without lowering the tower but for some reason the 8"s seem to sit a lot higher on the trailer than the 7's. I wonder how they schedule builds as I ordered mine in August and it is still in production?
Assuming they do it like car dealerships - every dealer gets an allotment with a designated build week. Most dealers will fill this allotment with orders they know they can sell very easy. That way if they can't fill the allotment with a custom order, at least they'll have inventory. The dealer has until a certain date to make changes to the allotment's build. So when a prospect comes in and wants to order a boat, they will just modify the allotment they already have in the system. That's why sometimes someone will order the boat and get it really quick, while others have to wait. It's because their timing was fortuitous and they were able to modify an allotment that was going into production very soon. Where as others have an allotment with a build week way out in the future. This is how it works in the auto industry so I just assume the boat industry is similar. However, so far what I've seen, the boat boat industry (or maybe just Cobalt) is not nearly as sophisticated as the auto industry when it comes to "custom" builds. For example, when I ordered my BMW, I was able to track exactly where it was in the production process online. There was a number you could call to get an estimated ship date, etc. When I ordered, I knew that my build allotment had a production week of 49, so I knew it was going to get done that week, just didn't know the exact day until production was further along.

So the towers on the 8’s are 6 inches taller than the 7’s so that’s why they are so much taller. I can’t speak to the way they schedule builds, what Vtenger said makes sense to me. My salesman told me that currently they build boats with the available components/accessories. I.E. if you ordered a boat with a black tower and they have black towers but no white towers your getting your boat before the guy that ordered one with a white tower even if he ordered before you did.

Nice DST! Summer can't come soon enough my friend. Love the tower speakers....you'll be rockin' on the water both literally and figuratively.

.
Thanks Buddy! It's torture to know it's just sitting there, can't wait!
Why the triple axle trailer? I thought 5k lb axles were the norm and no way that boat is even close to 10k lbs??
You are correct. It’s overkill for sure. More maintenance etc… BUT, I think it looks cool :0). when it comes time for new tires and maintenance I may change my mind. I do like knowing I have plenary of room to spare for payload too, but honestly it’s mostly cuz I think it looks cool Ha ha!

It does look cool but overkill gives piece of mind too! Why have your $10K trailer hauling your $250K boat and be at or close to maximum capacity all of the time? Something will eventually break when maxed out all of the time and ruin a great day on the water or a vacation. That’s why I have 2 6000lb axels under my R5... plus that’s the lightest axels my trailer manufacturer uses. A lot of trailer manufacturers use around a 3700lb axel as standard so it’s possible that’s why they have 3. There should be a sticker near the tongue stating what axels are on the trailer. The dry weight of an R8 is listed at 6400 lbs and a big trailer like that is probably around 2000lbs that leaves plenty of room for a “wet” boat, gear, loaded coolers and lemonade. Plus it looks good! Nice looking boat!

No harm in having more. But there's a difference between rated capacity and maximum. Consumer goods probably have a factor of safety of 4 but a minimum of 2. So your 6k rated axel has a capacity of significant more than that.

That’s right! My EZLoader had a reserve capacity of about 200lbs. I had my boat and trailer on a scale and with a half tank of gas it was 6800lbs on a trailer rated for 7200lbs. That’s what I call maxed out. I emailed EZLoader about it and they said that was well within specs, they also had a disclaimer saying that if the trailer was overloaded my warranty would be voided. Well with a full tank of gas and a cooler I was at capacity. Needless to say I don’t have much good to say about EZLoader.

I have a 6k lb lift and I was told mfg says it really can hold 7 to 7.5k…just extra built in reserves.

Circling back to "New Order - Delivery Estimates", I spoke to my dealer on Friday who told me that the orders they are taking now (limited order slots) are for late summer 2022 delivery (MY2023) but will more likely be delivered spring 2023. I assume he said Spring 2023 because our season here ends in September so I suspect Cobalt doesn't want boats to deliver to owners who will just put them up on blocks for the winter when they could deliver a unit to a customer further south who will use the boat immediately?

I'm trying to decide between an R6 Surf and R8 stern drive. Given the delivery lead times, I've got plenty of time to decide. And whichever I get, Big Block, I just want you to know I'm going with a VP430 this time, just so I can say I did. :)
