new order - delivery estimates

Post by drtbar »

I finally bit the bullet and ordered a 2022 R6 yesterday. Dealer said I should expect delivery about March, but since I'm in West Michigan anything before June works for me.

I've read the thread on people still waiting on deliveries of their 2021s and at least one person that ordered last month was given a delivery of later than me.

Obviously it's just a guestimate, but curious what others that have placed orders with deposits down have been told about delivery dates?

I ordered R8 Surf last month and dealer told me to expect a February (ish) timeframe for delivery.

We ordered an R8 Surf literally two weeks ago, put money down sold our old boat the whole deal… My dealer said we could expect Feb-may, so I took that to mean May at the earliest. He told me that cobalt has limited them to so many new orders and that they have to basically have a customer place the order. Have no idea if that’s accurate. I have a 10 year relationship with the salesman that told me that I’ve come to know him and I trust him. No reason to not believe him. Guess time will tell. He can only relay the info Cobalt/Malibu gives him.

Our dealership owner has said the same thing that they have had their build slots cut in half. If that is true then I could see deliveries dates correcting.

I've heard the same thing as well. For 2022 dealers can only order sold boats as in custom orders. They do not allow dealers to purchase stock boats this year to catch up.

I got 19% off MSRP for my R6.

I should add also that there was very little negotiation. Their first price was 18% off MSRP and I was able to get just a little bit more.

I ordered 3/3 and still don't have a production date from Cobalt. I was on Lake LBJ yesterday and Cobalt was visiting Boat Town. Cobalt said production time is still 8-9 weeks once you get your spray date. They wouldn't comment on overall lead time once a deposit is placed though. Boat Town has told me and reiterated it again yesterday that Cobalt is limiting the amount of boats they get next year to only 50. A gentleman who has been with Cobalt 40+ years told my friend they will be able to make 2200 boats next year. I did not hear that first hand I was busy checking out the R4 Surf.

@drtbar 19% sounds pretty damn good in these times.

I just got a message from my dealer on my 22 R8S. It was originally slated for a December/January build time frame. They informed me if I wanted the could move up the build to the next 30-45 days. Of course I eagerly said yes as that would give me some additional garage boating time!

Congrats Soonerfan! Hope that is indicative of good things to come for all the rest of us that have recently placed orders as well. I just got my 2022 F350 platy today. I ordered it in May!
