Spotify Anyone?

Post by NautiGirl »

So about a year ago Katie and I broke down and signed up for Spotify - best decision ever - really works great for music on the boat. We have what I like to think is a pretty comprehensive mix we use on the lake - everything from country to 90's hip hop to a little bit of late 90's to early 2000's rock that Katie let me sneak in.

Spotify lets you make public collaborative playlists, so anyone you share the playlist with can add to it. Know everyone is bored waiting on lake season, anyone have spotify and want to contribute to a cobalt chat playlist? If nothing else it could be entertaining?

Jeff I use Pandora. What's different about Spotify? It's not like I'm loyal to Pandora and I'll make the switch if there's a difference between the two

I thought this thread would be about them doing a public listing of currently existing shares rather than a traditional IPO this week. Pretty interesting way of going about it if you're into that kind of thing, although I'm not likely to buy any given the huge uncertainty in fair value.

Spotify is $10 a month but it is ad free. Also lets you make playlists and chose what songs you want to hear where pandora builds a stream for you. The quality on spotify is much better, which comes into play when you are trying to listen to music on your $300 wetsounds speakers.

Spotify also lets you save a playlist for off line listening which is awesome at the lake where we get a really poor cell signal.

Spotify has a free version which doesnt allow off line listening or "high quality" audio. Give it a shot and see if you like.

I use both (free) spotify and pandora. With spotify I like that I can make and save a playlist. With pandora I like that I can enter a handful of artist and it will make a playlist off of the artist I picked. I like both, just depends on what mood I'm in.

If you're an Amazon Prime member you can get prime music unlimited for $7.99 a month. Give it a try!

When you don't have cell service at the lake, paying for offline capability is where it's at. We have all of our Playlists downloaded and ready to rock once we lose service.

Ad free Pandora is $4.99 a month. I build my lists with thumbs up if I like and thumbs down if I don't. I find that they play the thumbs up songs much like a playlist but mix new stuff in all the time. And again if I don't like it I just give it a thumbs down. They also have an offline feature where I can play a Channel or station without internet. Not quite sure how that works but I've used it a couple of times and I like it!

Hey YT, you wanna get weird?

I've been in the Pandora game since it's Beta days. Try this on a new station so you can see what I'm talking about. Pick a band that you like and then proceed to downvote the first 50 or so songs it suggests. The algo will struggle harder and harder to find more obscure things that it believes you'll like. After a while it starts cranking out some really odd stuff instead of the 4-5 songs every band is known for.

That being said, Spotify is better. You can pick what songs you want to hear. the free version is super easy to use and everything you want is pretty much on there. Plus if you know my username, which you do, you can follow my stuff and listen to My Cobalt 2017 playlist - which has something for everyone.

Incidentally I use them both and run them off the phone.

As far as them listing... I'd be happy to discuss their Non-IPO, IPO off line as I can't discuss as most of you are aware. :D

My weirdo innerweb friend asking if I wanna get weird.
You almost skeerd me Liquid! I was afraid you was about to post a picture of your mammaries...

Yeah I've done that a little with Pandora just to mess with it. But not to the extent you talk about. I guess I'm gonna have to try Spotify. Y'all have me just about talked into it.

I just signed up for this, so far it's been pretty good. Usually use paid Pandora (can't stand the ads), haven't been too impressed with Prime Music in the past, but Unlimited seems to have a lot more variety.
