Cobalt 23SC

Post by RJ1 »

Does anyone here have any insight regarding the 23SC? I'm looking to buy one buy I live in Phoenix and no dealers have any demos. It loos amazing. I also can't find any performance or reviews online. Are there any owners out there with some insight and performance data? Top speed with a mercury 300 Verado or similar outboard? Thanks!

Welcome from Oklahoma RJ1!

As far as I know I don't think we have any active members here with an outboard, so buy it and tell us what you think. There has been some discussion about them though.

Just curious what draws you to an outboard?

Another Zonie?? :D

I'd imagine that those outboard models will be more popular in salt water areas. If you're in AZ, I'd recommend calling around to dealers in San Diego or LA to see if anyone has one out there.

Sorry for the long delay!

Ytmsm, I grew up with outboards and prefer them for mostly emotional reasons. I also like that they are generally lighter and take up less space. There are lots of pros and cons but after sharing an I/O Monterrey with my expended family for about 10 years I'm ready for something different.

I'm likely to buy the 23SC soon so I'll post pictures when I do. Thanks!!

I saw a test on the 25SC with a 300 Verado and top speed was 56mph. I imagine on the 23sc that engine would push it 60mph but you could always get the 350 Verado or the 400R and be one of the fastest boats on the lake! I have a 350 Verado on our Marker One pontoon that has a 9’5” beam and weighs 5,960 lbs. dry. It pushes it at 46-47mph with just me on board and 41+ with 8 on board.

I love our 23 SC even though it only has a Merc Verado 225. No problem getting on plane.

In Feb. 2020 I bought a brand new 2020 23SC with a Merc 250 Verado V8, a Revolution 4 19 pitch prop. Top speed so far is 51 MPH @ 5800 RPM with 4 adults. Cruises at 40 MPH @ 4200 RPM, average fuel economy is 3.2 MPG. Options I had installed by my Cobalt dealer before taking delivery include bow/transom shower, Sirius XM. Great boat. Only question so far is how to get the "engine hours"? I have twin Garmin 7 inch displays and can see most engine data I need to see except for engine hours. There is a Garmin sub-menu for Trip and there is an hour total there. I have not reset that hour data since delivery so I assume it is "total" engine on time hours. I have read about the Mercury VesselView Mobile module ($225) and free smartphone app for permanent installation into the engine diagnostic port under the cowling. Also, the Mercury NEMA 2000 Gateway module and harness. Awaiting Mercury Customer Support as to which option is best suited for me. Anybody have an opinion?

Hey KurtM

Welcome to the CobaltChat forum. So glad you found us!

I can highly recommend the vessel view module although I am using it on a Merc I/O. Should not be too much difference though on how you plug the module in. Basically plug and play for your boat. Make sure your stereo blue tooth does not interfere with you trying to connect with the vessel view module blue tooth.

Any pics of your machine? Feel free to start a new thread with pics. We enjoy them here.

Again, welcome aboard mate!
