Arch Confusion

Post by tbully »

Apologies for the short note.....punching this out from my phone.

Is there a good source of pictures for the different types of arches kicking around somewhere?

The R7 build site shows the same one for the different types. Specifically, I’m looking for what the rotating sunshade looks like.

Thanks.

Although the rotating arch folds, you gain no height savings because of the top rack.

Thanks Tusc. I was looking at that same picture at Parks. That's about as good as I could find as well. I guess I just don't understand the ~4K charge. Is there an advantage?

I don't think my first mate likes the the more solid looking arch. This means that the one I currently have on order - the "standard" folding - will stay. Just trying to make sure before it gets too late.

I’ve never seen one in person. But from pictures, if you fold it, the back portion will stick up higher. What’s the point of a folding arch if you can’t gain clearance?
Personally, I don’t get the concept unless the folding portion isn’t necessary and one likes some adjustment.

This is what I have on my R7. When you fold the tower the whole top part of the sunshade stays level front to back so you gain clearance. When folded it is almost like a very short roof for your boat. Guess if you got caught in a rainstorm you shut the windshield, front hatch, and lower the top and be somewhat protected from the rain!

Thanks for chiming in, Sooner! Do you happen to have pictures both in the upright and folded position?

Well, I just learned how they work, thanks Sooner.
It’s hard to see from pictures. I would have never guessed that the top levels when to tower is folded.

I only folded it once the first day I got my boat which was last Thanksgiving day weekend and I didn't get any pictures folded. I don't have any real good pictures but if you look at this one I have circled the area that actually rotates around the tower bars when you lower the tower allowing it to stay level. I won't be back to the lake until fathers day weekend but will fold it down and snap a picture then if that will help at all.

Here is the stock photo where Cobalt announced the rotating sunshade on twitter. You have to visualize the tower folding and the sunshade staying level.

That is very helpful, Sooner. Thanks! Now to consider if its worth the extra $$ or not. :) I have to make up my mind soon as I believe they're already building it.

I enjoy mine and wouldn't change it as I like the looks of a more solid permanent top vs. the fold out bimini. I was initially going with the standard solid arch when they announced this last fall.

Cons are obviously the price. One thing they don't promote much but is nice is that it has 2 pockets on top to hold surf boards. The cloth portion also comes off and goes on very easy so I take it off when not at the lake for extended periods of time. It has 3 zippers in the front and the rest is Velcro and adjustable snap buckles.

No matter what you choose you have made the best decision in the R7! It is a wonderful boat, rides so nice, fuel consumption is like WOW, and so much more. I am simply amazed every time I take her out. Of course I am coming from a 20 year old deck boat with a outboard! :)
