Ok, so I've been looking at chartplotters and have have pretty much decided on either the Simrad go5 or g7, depending on what mounting size I can make work. I am thinking of putting it in the cubby hole to the right of the wheel. Not ideal, but I think it will be ok. Here's my question: According to Simrad's website, operating temp range is down to 5 degrees. When my boat is in storage it will see way colder temps than that-- negative 20 is easily hit. I am making an assumption the concern by Simrad is the screen freezing. The obvious answer is take it out in the winter. SO, how difficult is it to remove a flush mount unit in the wintertime? I would hate to drop $$$ to find it frozen and useless in the spring. Or am I overthinking things again.
Thanks

Re: Question on flush mounted chartplotters
LCDs stop working well before they are prone to damage. Maybe give them a call to confirm they can be safely stored at -20, even if they won’t work while that cold.

Re: Question on flush mounted chartplotters
Well, I tried to call Simrad yesterday.....after 2 hours on hold, I gave up. If Garmin answers they move up a notch.

Yeah, well, good luck with that, and let me know how that works out for you.sailor55330 wrote: Tue May 21, 2019 11:10 am Well, I tried to call Simrad yesterday.....after 2 hours on hold, I gave up. If Garmin answers they move up a notch.
I bought a $1,000 GPS from Garmin for my adventure bike, and when it stopped working a year later I was told by a very Uncaring customer rep that they have discontinued the model and no longer offer service on it. Oh, and yeah, the warranty has expired. Sorry.
What??? I just bought the durn thing, and you still sell them off the shelf in the store! Discontinued? No warranty? No service?
NOT a fan of Garmin.
